Never as good as it seems and it’s never as bad as it seems. Should Battle leave and we not get band 1 (which I still find very unlikely) then so be it.

Opportunity will present for someone else to forge a career in a St Kilda jumper and who knows what they’ll be come.

Reality is, Josh doesn’t want to be here more than he wants to go to Hawthorn. So thanks for your service, and off you go to chase the greener grass.

Nothing is a certainty we are likely to to spike up next year & they could slide harder draw & some of those players need to replicate what they did this year. Carlton, Collingwood & Melb are proof of this.

If Battle is leaving for $850k then he’s not leaving for cash

If Battle leaves St Kilda knowing Hawthorn’s offer won’t trigger band 1 compensation for St Kilda, and St Kilda’s offer to him is enough for band 1 compensation, then that will generate significant bitterness.

This has always been the issue with allowing him to become unrestricted. We hold no leeway. We'd be better off offering him massive overs than losing him for a pick around 20 that probably blows out to 30. But then if he just wants to leave we're screwed.

Having said that how does Ralph know the exact figure of band one, isnt it a secret?

It's the silly season. Media companies have so many programs across Tv, Radio, Digital that they need to fill & there's only so many journos to fill those roles. It's a real incestuous industry.

Yes I did.

But the club is confident it’s band 1. No clue what Dilena apparently said.

There are multiple triggers.

Battle will max points on contract length.
Battle will max or get as close to on Age
If it’s 850 guaranteed a season - that’s cusp of band 1/2.

And that deal from Hawthorn will move higher once there season finishes.

It’s been the same story from them since the start of June.

They have felt Battle will ultimately want to go.
They won’t overpay to retain.
If he goes as they expect. They will get band 1.

and as evident by Gresham last year. It isn’t so secret sauce lucky dip. They have a fair idea of the frame work as I mentioned above.

Losing band 1 over 50k seems utterly ridiculous.

Surely we can take a player off Hawks list they don't want as a salary dump and we throw them a late pick.
