Hunter clark has, in almost every respect, become luke dunstan mk2.

No tank, speed or spread- can only play ~50-60% time on ground.
But maddenly gets the pill ~20 times in half a game.

Not worth trading at this point- but FMD, can't we send him to the himalayas or something for 6 months to magically improve his aerobic capacity??!!

The difference is he uses the ball well and is actually damaging. Very handy mid to rotate through

I would not want us to trade our future 1st. We do not know where we will finish next year.
I want more 1st round picks this year and next.

If you are going to target anyone from the 2022 draft, i'd go for Humphrey. Far superior proposition to Tsatas and Hobbs. Would cost more but there is an A grader in there that hasn't come out yet.

Loved him in his draft year but has gone nowhere up on the GC. They must rate him he’s played 40 games but almost exclusively as a small forward.

I agree- he is like a slippery eel in the clinches.

The problem is that a footy oval is over 2000 square metres.

A phonebox is what- about 2 squares?

Crouch could run all day extracting the pill- hunter only being capable of playing half a game (and being gassed for large parts of that 50%)- means we are down half a bench rotation every week.


Over the course of a season- that's a LOT of extra running his midfield teammates need to do to cover him.
Especially in an endurance taxing gameplan like ross the boss plays.

To offset that- we need clark to be an absolute star, not a meat and potatoes extractor like crouch.

The eagles had a similar problem with nic nat- he couldn't play more than ~50% time on ground.
But they took that on the chin- because the star stuff he did in that 50%, made up for that extra ~30% he was sitting on the pine.

In summary- if clark is able to star in his 50% time on ground- that's fine.
But being a meat and potatoes extractor AND only 50% TOG... yeah nah- trade him and give his mid minutes to windy etc.

Clearly it wasn’t a problem for him then. The guy has been injured and had problems in the preseason, he looks gassed in some games this year but clearly he’s capable of much more. Trade him and play windhager in the mids, yeah nah.

If that is the case would you deal with North who seem to want Trainor but not at pick 2, by swapping our first this year and next, Membrey for pick 2 and North's this and next year 2nd rounders and a third.

We’ll see, those deals still need to be done and I doubt they’ll be quite as generous as some are predicting. GC for example have no need to overpay and trade their first. No one is bidding on Lombard before their pick and you’d laugh and let them have him if they did.

I know I've gone on about it a lot, but Howard staying is a relief. Needing to replace two key defenders at once would have been a nightmare and a significant setback for our elite backline.

Also good to hear Shiel is a no, but we still do need someone mature to help take the load off Steele. Hopefully we are exploring a Macrae or Parker type.

Clearly he didn't have a lot of competition either , some are doing 17kms per game so that's a fair drop off

It is the fact he had little preseason. Dow was the same, Jones slightly better.

All three started to shoe a bit with a block of games. Jones and Clark really started to look like the players we wanted and Dow's last couple of games gives me hope for improvement.
However JVE just showed what will happen if you continue to be injured. Bonner showed what happens when you don't tackle.

You're 100% right but at the same time, fitness is always going to be an uphill battle for Hunter imo.

Some guys (not many) can miss 4-6 weeks and come back and get 30 touches straight off the bat.

Clark does take time to build and therefore injury interruptions will hamper him more than most.

Its distance covered at high speed that matters. I have a feeling this is where Clark struggles.

We might be onto a new innovative game plan here: Draft #7 Murphy Reid + #8 Tobie Travalgia.

Stick them both at Half back, who needs mids when you can have 7 Running half-back/Wingers? Sinclair, Bonner, NWM, Hill, Travaglia, Reid, Henry and Wilson

Geelong actually pretty much did that in their flag year. Gave up the midfield to concentrate all their best players to attack off HB. Richmond barely competed in clearance but won three flags.

Lyon fetishised that Geelong flag side so don’t laugh. He’s also never really liked plodder one position mids preferring spread runners, two way mids or guys who can play more than one role.

Still to find out what happens with Seb Ross , Membery , Paton , Battle , Jones and Hayes - all would be worried about there futures.

I just had a look at his VFL stats he is hardly setting the world on fire averaging 1 goal a game, 11 disposals & 4 tackles, he would want to come cheaply.

You’d be buying on potential not a ready made player. He’s well regarded at Sydney.

Can't believe he's lasted this long on a list. Very clear early on in his career that he simply wasn't up to it. Coasted on his "Pick 2" status for years, not because of him so much, but due to other clubs delusions and being blinded by their own headlights.
He might go okay in the country leagues.

Feel a bit sorry for him. I remember Robert Murphy saying that his a forward pocket or wing born into a KP size frame. Like Mason Wood clubs kept trying to turn him into what he wasn’t rather that play him to his strengths.

Possibly but can’t see anyone wanting to do it. Next year is a weaker draft. I’m not usually keen on selling future picks either. Clubs always regret it and try to trade players in desperation when they want back in.

That is the same as getting Thomas to the club - would you let any knob play in our jumper.

I have no issues with Petracca the person but his age goes against everything we have been doing since Lyon arrived. To get him probably costs us 2 prime draft picks and is probably more likely to delay a flag that win us one. He’d get us memberships and hype but not sure he's the right fit for us.
