Pre-season training: Wed Nov 29.

First session @ Victoria Park. What's a little rain. it helped I live near by so only took a few minutes to walk there, and got there about 10 mins early; heard them warming up underground before they came onto the ground.

A few extra players today, but a few less.

Today's players in attendance:

Mitchell
Schultz
Noble
McStay New addition
Carmichael (wearing de goey's number, as he always liked to do this year)
Harry
DC (was out for a bit, then went back inside, not sure if he hurt himself ... someone mentioned looked like he was limping)
Kreuger new addition
Allan
Fin
TJ
Oscar
Ryan
Reef
Richards
Bytel
Nick D
HH
Markov new addition
Hustwaite
Beggy
Ash
Soforidis
Dean
Teakle
Eyre (wearing Coxy's 46)

There was still a fair bit of running involved this morning, with Harry determined to win every sprint in his group, which he did. Both draftees did a bit more work in today's session, while still sitting out a little bit toward the end, but slowly getting involved in more each session. Reckon come monday they'll be unrestricted.

Just one more session until all the seniors (bar pendles, sidey and howe who dont have to be back til post christmas) have to be back on track.

McStay and Kreuger did a bit of the drills, but otherwise they did a running session. Darcy Cameron did come and started to do some of the warm up drills, but sometime after that, saw him go into the rooms. Never returned. I wonder whatever niggle he is dealing with just wasn't right enough to train.

Begg/Steene were the rucks with Teakle up forward, Steene also went forward and you saw Begg down back, but feel like that may have been part of the ruck role. Given the small group, it was hard to do a real match play senario.

SSP:
Eyre played full back, and is quite agile for his height, moves well.
Sofonidis: Has a nice kicking action, and good vision when kicking from defence. I havent actually seen this pace that gets talked about yet.
Teakle: Played forward, but didn't seem to do too much today that I noticed. It was wet conditions though so wouldn't have been ideal for big boys.
Hustwaite & Bytel, played mid and did well enough with the ball ball. A few fumbles but thats to be expected.

Shultz did some good things up the ground, around stoppages.
Looks like Reef was being played higher up the ground, rather than closer to goal. Probably in an attempt to get him involved in more play.

Mcstay didn't look too hampered by his knee, things seem to be improving on that end. He participated in some drills, mainly just marking the ball when it came up forward and kick some goals. But didn't do any contested stuff. I imagine they are easing him inton things as we head into the new year.

What was Kreuger's issue?

Noble was strong, using the ball use with an air of urgency.
Mitchell working with some of the kids with handballing
Richards, ElliottsMaggies pointed out to me that it's like he is invisible, and it's true; he kinda just blends in and you do forget he is out there. Doesn't do anything special. Even in VFL games, still seems to do things without you realising it.

Nick I think they are easing him through some loads, as he played more at half back, and trained with the defenders.

They did some sprints early in the session. Also split up into groups where they did some drills that included talking about shape and how they want to play in terms of ground balls. If the ball is on the ground and who you are about to dish it out to, the coaches just making sure the shape of what they should be doing. This was led by Bolton.

They worked on some ball movement from D50, and running through the middle of the ground. No stoppages in today's session, mainly about attacking.

Goal kicking and man of the mark stuff was also done. Jakob was quite happy with himself when he kicked a goal post training with Oscar from the boundary.

Lol, thanks for the mention. I hope Joe doesn't read bf. 🙊

Am I reading that Kreuger is injured after session two? Perhaps this is why we invited the amount we did to train.

Nah, I think he was injured late in the season? This is his first session, but I feel like he had some sort of niggle hence why he wasnt in contention to take Mcstay's place in the GF (apart from the fact he is made of paper)

He wasn’t in the GF injury report. I think we went Frampton given Kreuger hadn’t played AFL for a long time. It’s hard to see him cracking the side unless he stops getting injured.

Not in the current one too. I guess I was trying to understand why he mainly was running. Maybe since it’s his first session and doesn’t even really have to be there til Monday

Teakle averages only 1mark a game at afl level and less than 3 at SANFL level

So I’m curious why he was forward today… maybe all part of the trial but
I just see him as a spare part ruck…
I can see why, didn't really stand out at all. Looking at today's footage. We probably could forgive him for fumbling given the conditions, but he does struggle to get involved, and get his hands on the ball. Took one mark thanks to Mcstay, but then kicked it over Allan's head.
