One session where many are going to be a bit lost due to having to nut out and read a different system.

I know zero about him. Hadn't heard of him before him being linked to us.

Going purely of Jen's observations.

But hey, you're right, it was one session in the wet. I was bullish on Frampton from day one so I'm willing to give this kid a chance too.

I hadn't heard of him either. He's been delisted so his footy obviously isn't going great, but from the footage, he's one hell of an athlete - you can see why they'd be wanting to have a look at him.

Yeah let’s wait it out. It is still early days and only 2 sessions in. Once the seniors come back on Monday, we might see teakle’s proper role.
But so far, if he isn’t gonna ruck I just don’t quite understand what they are doing with him.

Oh for sure.

I posted earlier saying exactly that. That he seems to tick all the "physical" boxes you'd want from a tall

I reckon you’re right about waiting to see when the full list is back but I also agree on the fact that if he’s not rucking I’m not sure we’ll utilize him.

The reason I asked you about Begg earlier is everyone here seems to think he should be a KPD and if the coaching group agree and he trains there then I suspect Eyre is a long shot. However if he rucks through most sessions the chances of Eyre and Sofronidis go up whereas the chances for Teakle diminish.

After I wrote off Markov this time last year, I've decided to withhold judgement until they've played a season of footy or made a really poor decision off-field before saying we shouldn't sign so and so.

At the moment, I would like Eyre and Hustwaite. But the coaches and recruiting staff may, and probably will, see it differently.

2 sessions in and already there are some who have dismissed certain SSP's, lol.

Lucky for them they get the whole pre season to adapt & learn in a new environment.
No worse really than the posters who declared we’re a cert to take 3 of them off the back of one session.

The love that is being shown to Bytel from some posters is strange tbh. I’m fully expecting him to be overlooked in favour of getting Fin and Allan game time. Unless something drastic happens to one of them over the course of preseason, I just don’t see the need for him.

I don’t think we’d have two midfielders training on if the club was confident on our current group of reserve midfielders stepping up at AFL level.

I have a way to work it out.

It's ludicrous to make any call on any of them either way at this stage, imo.

As for the posters declaring a particular 2-3 a cert, they've technically also ruled out the other 2-3..

Fair to say, most haven't even attended the 2 training sessions to watch any of them up close either.

Each to their own. I read it as having something in the back pocket if something happens to Fin or Ed over preseason and we need the extra body.
As it stands I feel like Eyre and Sof are the two who are most likely to come in as areas of need. Eyre as KPD depth and Sof as a potential Howe replacement from the sounds of the way he plays.

Beyond rewarding VFL players, I’m a bit mystified by Hustwaite’s invitation. Especially given we’ve also invited Bytel. He’s been in our system a long time, the coaches would know what he offers, and I think VFL is his level. He’s an honest workhorse but lacks pace and I doubt his skills offer enough at the next level to compensate for that. He’s a bit like Marty Hore in that respect.

I think the same, but Leppa and McRae might be having Kane Lambert memories - who would have been viewed the same whilst plugging away in a VFL team.

From what I read, it was Leppa that is keen on him. And Fraser would have had an input given he coaches him.

It's the last 2 spots on our list.
Whoever we take is unlikely to play unless we get injuries.
It was a shallow draft so we were never going to get superstar prospect late in the draft.
We are in a flag window so an 18 year old project player doesn't help anyway.
We only have to give the SSP a 1 year contract unlike the draft (3 or 2 years minimum), and the MSD can be nominated as 2 or 1 years.

Realistically the 1/2 SSP just need to be healthy, be a good team culture fit (train hard, etc.) and provide flexibility with who they could come in for in case of injuries.

If we find something out in preseason training that we didn’t already know from having him play seasons of VFL matches for us, we’re doing something wrong.

I'm not advocating signing him - nor do I expect us to. I'm more just saying that I can see why coaches who worked with Kane Lambert aren't as quick as us to write off a VFL guy for appearing too vanilla for AFL. Whilst they've seen a heap of him before - he wouldn't have done an AFL preseason before or played with and against AFL senior players as much as he will during this preseason.

It could also be simply doing him a favour and trying to get him to another club. Supposedly Steene got an offer from St Kilda based on his preseason with us, and Markov was set to train with Carlton - so it it something that can lead to opportunity even if not with us.

The seniors are back on monday, so lets see how he fares with the full squad. I think all these prospects. we'll get a better idea how they fare, and and where they are positioned.
