For those who were keeping an eye on Ethan Phillips, he has signed with the Hawks
I find it wild that he was ignored for so long with other significantly more mediocre mature age players given gigs repeatedly, so I'm happy for him.

But hope he toils away in a terrible team in his time at Hawthorn.

You misunderstand me. I thought it was pretty clear that it’s nothing to do with losing the individual players themselves. It was about the fact that they had spent an entire pre-season learning our style, attending our meetings etc., and then after a few months with us, they’re in with Carlton or Essendon the next day.

They possess the most up to date intel about our 2024 playing style, tactics and strategy of anyone outside our club. Way more so than someone like Taylor Adams who left months ago and did none of the 2024 pre-season with us.

Someone mentioned NDA’s upthread as a solution but they are worthless in this situation.

Also, it’s not actually “hatred”, it was just an easy word to use at the time. I didn’t expect to have to clarify the post days later, I might have edited it more carefully if I had.

(God, the amount of people who entirely melt down on here every week about the most trivial stuff and yet it’s my little observation that gets called out and misconstrued forcing me to clarify).
I wouldn’t even give it a second thought let alone the time you took to respond to TGG. It’s an incestuous industry where people move about internally all the time and every club has the intel they need without needing to bring in a train on player for a little bonus. The focus is almost universally on the opportunity for the departing person rather than any intel they’d take with them.

The one move that clubs would share your POV on is list management/ recruiting in the build up to the draft. A club would block an employee from those areas working with another club until post draft and the recruiting club would understand that.

There was speculation about his extra curricular activities pre-draft 2022. Whether it’s true or not who knows, but on paper he looks a better prospect than both Sofronidis and Eyre.

He's meant to have a challenging attitude but hard to know if true. Potentially like Tyler Keitel in the WAFL who, allegedly, had an extremely arrogant attitude when he trained with Freo a few years ago.

He's got a shot now, make the most of it.

My long shot/hopium McStay scenario:

- Ready to return to normal/full training in May (which is essentially 6 months from when he did the injury given he did it at the start of December)

  • Spends June conditioning for a return to play
  • Spends July playing VFL
  • Comes back to AFL in August

Gives him a full month lead-in for finals

There's video footage of him running laps at training from weeks ago - I assume you meant to say he was back training with the team for the first time?

Was he running back then or just agility work? I don’t recall.

This would be ideal! however If AJ/Kreug/Reef are doing a decent job and we are flying I dunno if they risk him, always a high chance in the first 12 months post rehab the ACL (or the other one due to overuse) goes again

But you never know, our medical team is elite and have been known to make miracles happen

Cousin of Daicos above nailed it.

The fact the club hasn’t put him on the LTI to open up a list spot means they’re going to give him every chance to get back by the time the year is out …and by the time the MSD comes around in around June…we will know just how far along his recovery is.

I used to hate our sports science and fitness guys because we were always behind the 8 ball when it came to getting players on the park close to near full fitness ahead of schedule but the Wade regime has been exceptional in this facet.

Here’s hoping Dan can make a return come August / September

I like that scenario.Remember back in 2018 Goldsack did his knee in March and still made it back in time for the finals.Even more incredibly he played the finals after only playing half a game in the VFL,and he did pretty well too as it turned out,So Mcstay has every chance of playing in the finals this year, provided he doesn’t have any setbacks throughout the year,of course.

He looks a muscled up boomer

It is a bit uncanny.

I used to see these guys when I went to the gym when I was young, like about 50, probably an orthodontist training their nads off and a stash of every supplement invented by man legal or otherwise in their gym bag beside their viagra supply. They hope to do some impressive feat, like the Hawaiian ironman or climbing Everest or something, so their receptionist would finally be impressed enough to bonk them.

And when they got in the change rooms, it was like the bathroom at Wet on Wellington. All lined up posing in front of the mirror with a camera documenting their sick gains and trying not to look at the competition on either side and wondering if it is time for that botox course.
