Thanks Jen.
Like i said hard to gauge from only a few frames.

Was looking for the new guys and just noticed how soft in the attack on the ball/body and very slow second efforts.
Happened more than once from what i could see.

Anyway, just something i noticed from the vision.

I'd say that's consistent with his 2023 VFL form. Reading the ball flight and intercepting definitely his strong suit.

Of the advanced and semi advanced countries of the world, only in Australia would you find large areas where the internet doesn't exisrt.

You need to get out of Melbourne a bit more. It's all too common in regional Victoria. Don't even need to venture too far from regional centres. Still, it's the system we voted for.

Liam McMahon was an excellent kick - It was probably his most standout attribute at his height.

He was just too physically weak to win contests in most situations.

We all see things differently but excellent might be a bit strong. He was a very good kick but tended to get too much air and lack the power to cover the turf quickly. I think Eyre is better. More power, lower trajectory, more distance.

Since the sleuths have cleared up the BF problem of the week....

Back on to training.....
Thanks for posting Jen, Apples and others.

Just on Eyre.
Some of the efforts looked really soft when competing 1v1.
Way too soft.

Hard to know what the objective was as to whether to compete or not, but he just didn't seem in control of the contest.
Might have just caught him on a bad day, but multiple instances of poor bodywork and lack of intensity doesn't bode well.
Put a line through his name if that’s the case

I think you might be jumping the gun here, considering it's preseason training, and I don't think the coaching staff really need this preseason to judge his competitiveness, considering he played for our VFL team and already got this invite.

I would suggest that before Christmas, as long as he's getting to the contests, that's the most important thing. Save the intensity for January/February.

Yup maybe going early.

But saw what i saw.
Train how you play.

You think he should just wait until after Xmas to show competitive attitude?
Given he's trying to get on the list?

Like i said, super small sample size....hopefully was drill related.

What would Reef’s best position in the team be at senior level if he is ever to become a regular?

the role Elliott plays, leading out of the goal square and roaming forward 50 , so he will have to make do with playing bit part roles until either Elliott retires or his form doesnt command him a spot

personally, i dont see him as a midfielder at all

I was thinking about this recently as well. We all know he's got the talent to play at AFL level, but the problem for Reef is his role. I think he's a third tall (for now), which is largely filled by Checkers (given we play a ruck forward with McStay) and Elliot who although is smaller, due to his leap can play taller. The rest of our forward line are smaller pressure forwards.

For him to break in I think he would need to either

1. Outperform Checkers, Johnson, Elliot or wait on an injury.
2. Provide a midfield option, being able to run through the midfield at times at AFL level
3. Step up his pressure forward acts, so he's competing with our small pressure players.

Went to training for 30mins. I'm sure Jen2310 and others will do their marvelous write ups. 👍

Really very quick points ....

Bobby and IQ were running laps together as everyone else did quick drills in groups. IQ up close is one healthy and solid looking machine ... and this is amongst elite athletes. He'll be very hard to beat in one on ones (again).

Reef does indeed seem to be looking fitter ... was even in a group of onballers doing drills.

Johnny Noble asked for a puffer. I presume it was asthma ... which I didn't know? For those not in Melb, we had storms last night and today it's muggy. Temp at 10 was about 24-25 and humid.

All players in small groups rotated through warm up drills. I was near the right pocket where a player had to snap shots on goals from 25 out at 45 degress. They jumped over small hurdles, kicking on left and right foot depending on where the coach rolled the ball on the ground. Darcy was annoyed with himself as he wasn't connecting well .... it happens.

Nick had a bit of face fungus and from behind in this drill I thought it was Josh. The players are wearing random numbers sometimes .... anyway, more the point that Nick grew last preseason yeah? .... well I reckon he has filled out wee bit more. From behind they'll look like twins apart for the fact that Nick being a smidge taller than Josh.

I’m not sure he has the ground level game to play Elliott’s role. Sure he can lead out the same but can he provide the same reactiveness and pressure when the ball hits the deck?

Nick looks like Nick and they could be twins?
