Hardly a training report, but I was having a stroll around Burnley Park in Richmond this morning and coming in the opposite direction towards me is a bloke, a girl & a German Shepherd. What’s noticeable is the bloke is a bloody big unit and that he has a noticeable limp.
As we passed I said “good luck with recovery Dan”, and Dan McStay said thanks.

I feel like this story needs a punch line about the german shepherd

There appear to be players not at the camp, including Jamie Elliott.
Yeah, and checkers who I have heard has done his calf. And clearly carmichael with his concussion
A few of the older blokes too. Pendles is in byron, dont think sidey and howe are there. Murphy? But otherwise, everyone else.

Jamie appeared to be at the dentist today though I think and I have not seen Moore in the footage from Morwell. I think it was said that some of the oldies had it off before Christmas.

Pendles/Howe and sidey dont need to be around til January. Yeah no Moore, which is odd, he had been at most sessions.

When out for some exercise I generally walk on a footpath that borders one end of the football oval we trained at today.

Spewing that I didn't happen upon the lads and I wonder if given the training today wasn't advertised whether it took place earlier than the timestamps on the social media posts suggest.

If the timestamp is accurate I was in the vicinity around 2pm so either they were finished or somehow I missed them due to the trees and lay of the land obscuring my view.

Son of a bitch.

Skipworth says to his knowledge all the train ons will continue into the new year. They will give them as long as possible to get a look at them

This makes sense, because if we sign one we have one fewer list spot available, and hence have to send an additional person away from training, right? Because it’s two train-ons for each list spot?

So it’s good business, if you want to look at as many players as possible for as long as possible, not to sign anyone for as long as possible.

Yeah. 2 per list spot, and 6 in total training at one time (no matter how many list spots you have, unless you ask for an excemption)

The flip side is that if you have too many trialling as mids for example it impacts preseason as you've got to give them mid time in match Sim - otherwise what's the point. Getting the decisions made early means that you can have a more settled preseason with players receiving more prep in specific roles as well as more one on one time with development coaches.

This is a good point too.
I hadn't thought of it that way.

Fair point, better to get as much of this exposure as possible before the most senior players have to come back.

tbf, its only pendles, steele and howe that can come and go until post xmas, but all the other seniors are back.

Bloody favouritism, I tell ya!

Don't Elliott and Moore also do shorter full time preseasons?
Only if they are in the rehab group or on a separate schedule, given their history with injuries, but they generally still have to turn up at the club is my understanding.

They need to give the players long enough to increase the chance of making the right decisions, but the shorter the long enough is the better. At the moment it won't matter as a fair few will be on modified preseasons due to age, previous injury history or post season ops, having the extra bodies for match practice will be a good thing, but in the new year - the longer players have training in their likely 2024 role - the better.
