USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

Fear fear fear. Yours like your oxygen.

Nevermind the 4 years he’s already presided and your fear mongering about the nuclear weapons never happened. In fact the opposite happened.

Still baffles me how leftists have nothing other than fear to run on after 3 years of peace and tranquillity (except for the bogus impeachments which were proven to be complete fraudulent evidence) and then Covid in his 4th year.

But go on, live in fear. Must be your happy place.
Nobody is scared of your intellect, champ.

I get your politics and humour but to the unitiated you can come across as a tulsi Gabbard/Jimmy Dore type even though I know you definitely aren’t.

Though even in my experiences I have received some of the wrath of the blue no matter who crowd.

Fair enough. I think I can be unsparing of Trump at times but he's such a known quantity that I've run out of much more to say. I've posted a fair bit about my thoughts on immigration and abortion.

Funnily, I don't think the posters in the other International Politics threads (UK, France, Brazil, Argentina, whichever other ones I've been in, hell, even Australia!) don't seem to be as regularly confused as to where I am on the spectrum which probably says something about the state of discussion on US politics.

And how were they going to over throw the election in real terms?
I’d love you to explain how it was going to happen. Some bloke with horns on his head carrying a pocket knife was suddenly going to take over the entire US armed forces and impose martial law.

Deranged nonsense.
The concept of a plan was to find Pence office and barricade him in until he signed off on a Republican win - or hang him with the brought in gallows - then go to the next office until someone says Yeah Donny won

I think both major parties are way further to the right on the overton window than most if not all those other countries. I don't know about Argentna, what is the party not in power like there?

So many Democrats caught cheating - erm hold on I have the director on the line

What? It wasnt Democrats? Ok - In news just in another Republican has been caught cheating making the total well over 200 people charged

All just tin foil hat conspiracy theories.

The reality is nothing happened of any consequence. Biden was elected and served as President. End of story.
I thought the '' he likes Jews so he cant be a Nazi '' was the dumbest comment for a long time

Congratulations sir you win the boob prize

'' Nothing happened so lets forget about it ''

Pick up your prize at the idiot stall

Well, I hope Trump loses for more fundamental reasons than that.

Well so long as we all end up in the same place, the journey is probably less important.

But in the context of this post, a bonus to me of Trump losing will be that I don't have to read posts that snipe Democrats by sarcastically suggesting it's good that they have empathy for opposition politicians even if they don't care about the plight of Palestinian kids. At the same time not acknowledging that the alternative is a guy who has zero empathy for opposition politicians (or anyone else, except perhaps his daughter and youngest son) and also doesn't care about the plight of Palestinian kids.

I don't think every comment about Biden needs a footnote comparing Trump.

I'm also puzzled as to why you'd be so disingenuous to claim that you like both candidates.

Because it was a joke. People barely like one candidate. Nobody likes both.

Agree.

I don't think every comment about Biden needs a footnote comparing Trump.

No, but such a malicious snipe at the one who is less offensive on the matter at hand (the last in a long list of similar snipes) doesn't sit well with me.

Because it was a joke. People barely like one candidate. Nobody likes both.

I truly missed the joke. My bad.

Swings and roundabouts. Starmer's doubled down on austerity, which I don't think Harris is going to do. Macron did put up an incredibly right wing Prime Minister with the support of Le Pen's party in order to block the left getting a foothold, which kind of tarnishes the whole horseshoe theory. Lula's still pretty cool though.

I'd say the Democrats are probably better than any of the three main parties in Argentina at the moment, in their defence.

We all know the real reason Dem states don’t want voter ID is because they just spent 4 years flooding the country with illegal undocumented immigrants and they want those same illegals to vote Democrat.
This BS was busted 3 weeks ago. Or you have fresh evidence which I request you provide

"Deep State" was brilliant labeling or hashtagging if you like. But 'they' let Trump win, and stay in office for four years. Surely Pence would have been their preferred boy.

If there is a Deep State or 'Cabal' it would the Federalists and Heritage orgs. They have the clout and finances to hand-pick SCOTUS justices, recommend federal judges around the country, and most likely Congress critters.

But he’s the one with power right now. In 1968, protestors hounded Johnson out of recontesting the presidency, had his subbed in VP change course on the war to save his shot at the presidency, but he changed too late and fell to Nixon, who expanded and prolonged the war. I don’t think anybody in their right mind argues the people saying “Hey hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?” were wrong to not add a line making it clear Nixon would be worse. The loss was the fault of the Democratic politicians, not those speaking out.

I truly missed the joke. My bad.

I should try making it funny next time 😕

MAGA - Make America Great Again by removing democracy and replacing it with fascism.

I believe the US has been shaped over decades into a system that benefits corporations and powerful interest groups like big fossil fuel companies, banks, the investment class, big pharma, healthcare providers, military industries, prison management companies etc. Lobbying and campaign financing are significantly to blame.

Both parties bear responsibility, though there are more Democrats and depending on the target, some Republicans, that would do anything to curtail this.

Certainly Trump's record with his tax cuts and pro Corporate judicial and cabinet appointments, among other de-regulatory and legislative moves, suggest strongly he's worse out of the 2.

The "administrative state", while having legitimate criticisms, is largely a deflection away from these real issues. Republicans and Trump would have people believe it's the departments of Education or Health, the FBI, and regulatory bodies that are the problem. But they just want to sabotage these agencies so people are less informed, there's less oversight of corporate America, less consequences for wrongdoing, and more money to be siphoned upwards and away from services to lower, middle classes.
Sadly it’s not something peculiar to the US. We have the same issue - maybe on a lesser scale - in our own back yard. Why is it that governments of both colours, at state level and federal level, have been so pathetic on enabling gambling reforms? Why has our transition towards renewable energy and the associated investment required in energy transmission infrastructure been so slow? Why do we allow multinational companies to plunder our natural resources with so little contribution to the wealth of our country?

Introduction of restrictions on political contributions and/or political spending (since mega-contributions would be of less use) would be a small, but valuable step towards improving the health of our democracy (and the US’s). Some European countries do have such restrictions in place.
