Hopefully this is the last US presidential election where the world is still polluted by Murdoch still being alive.
A Murdoch/Trump double by the end of the year would give me some much needed Death List points.

Forgot to mention most polling booth are in church halls or public school halls
So after voting there is often cakes etc sold for the school fund raising and this

We actually vote early now , beats the queues saturday and you often get to meet the candidates as there is usually one place to vote early and they are often there

You honestly think it’s racist for a Mexican to poke fun at his own race?

And in anyway comparable to a white person calling PR a floating island of garbage?
Not to mention turning a negative stereotype (assuming it is even one) into a positive i.e. taking from the border wall.

I've agreed it's a shit joke but do you know the story behind the joke, or did you go straight to pearl clutching?

“The story”

If there’s a legitimate story behind the joke, why are Puerto Ricans enraged. Are they pearl clutching too?
Maybe you could do some research.

And yes they have every right to be upset, but the comedian didn't just decide to call Puerto Rico garbage. As bad and ill timed as the joke was it is based on events there.

Still got containers of paper towels left over from trumps visit

You guys got me thinking about compulsory voting. I don't think that would work in the US unless there was a serious paradigm shift in how the entire country goes about elections. First, it would have to be federally controlled, with paid time off work or a holiday in order give so many different people the ability to go vote. Probably more voting locations and options. Enforcement, no idea.
That's just off the top of my head.
My first thought though was the Republicans would never, ever permit it. They hate how many voters there are already.
How does it work in Aus?
You register your address and 6 weeks? before a State or Federal election you are reminded to ensure your address is current because you are slotted into Seats which are controlled by population size ie a Seat in WA is one of the largest electorates in the world

ie Durack but only 118.000 electors
Area1,383,954 km2 (534,347.6 sq mi)

It is controlled by the AEC Australian Electoral Commission https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Electoral_Commission

These seats are assessed after each election to consider population shift and whether boundaries need to be redrawn

As noted by Satan its a Saturday vote at mostly churches or primary schools with some rent-a-site co-opted as electoral offices - but there has been an increase in early voting '' yeah mate I drive a truck and will be in Oony Woop Woop on Satdy'' . Postal voting or absentee voting is allowed by telling the staff you are voting outside your area

You walk in - past a myriad of volunteers who dont try and stuff electoral how to vote for our party pieces of paper - into the room and tell the clerk your name and address - they then cross it off with a ruler and pencil after you confirm its you by saying '' yeah thats what I said mate '' - now using a pencil is funny to a lot of people but after an election ALL the books are scrutinised - firstly within your district and then statewide - to see if you havent turned up elsewhere and done the same. Thats when you get the please explain

You then walk outside smirking at the opposition volunteer and grab an overpriced sausage on bread and a can of coke and go home having done your civic duty

Once you enter the booth the choice is yours - you may draw a dick and balls, you may scribble all over or you may god forbid number the boxes like you are supposed to - or even leave the paper blank. By getting your name crossed off its done

Then you go home watch Antony Green on the ABC get rattled when the computer doesnt flip to the screen he wants while a group of talking head politicians scramble every 2 minutes to check texts - and just by studying their faces you can tell who is winning or losing

2 points , computerised now with name and address check ?
We are given 2 pieces of paper , one for lower house house of representatives which is small and usually has 4 or more names usually up to 8 or 9 . Each name has a box which you have to choose from 1 - lets say 8 . All boxes must be filled and no duplicate numbers or its invalid . Who ever party wins at least 76 seats out of 151 governs
The other piece of paper is for upper house senate and is more complicated . It is massive and can have 80? Names . Previously you had to fill in every box . Nowadays its easier . In the actual booth you vote there is the pencil attached to the right side of the table with s short string for 10 percent of the voters like me who are left handers its a pain to fill out that paper , requires a lot of dexterity to get the pencil to the paper. Cant use the pencil to your left from the other booth

In that case do you think perhaps the Trump campaign could condone the joke instead of seemingly pretending the comedian just snuck up on stage unannounced?

Perhaps Trump could actually be a leader, take a modicum of responsibility and apologise?
