Continued in Part 2

I used to be obsessed as with going to the USA. Wanting to live there for a bit etc. But as time has gone on more and more. The more I have began to dislike American people, for their self inflated opinions of themselves and general rudeness. That by now, I consider the only good things about America, is sport, music and movies. Of course some decent areas nature wise, like Yellowstone region etc. But the people, culture and overrated cities, I couldn't care less about. Traveling there is now well below the priority it used to be. And that is all because of the whack jobs coming out from under the piles of turd they hid in, since 2016.

I was actually invited by a high school to go play sports over there and finish off my schooling. But sadly my parents couldn't afford to send me. Which at the time would have been an awesome experience.

But if they become a nation of Christian Nazis and go back to the dark ages, then tourism in general will be even more less so. Some parts of Europe and Japan are now my number ones by far. May potentially live in Munich for a bit if my plans go well.
One interesting thing I've noticed (and yes, it's small and anecdotal) but the US may be losing its attraction for young people.

My youngest daughter is on an engineering and science fast track at university and thinking about overseas placement options. The US would make lots of sense in terms of professional advancement but she and her cohort just don't like the idea of going there. It's mainly security and guns but also the sort of society it's become.

It'll still be attractive if you're coming from China or India but maybe they're not always going to get the best and the brightest anymore.

The most deranged political ad of all time.

republicans will try to frame this election around immigration crime and the economy - in most instances dems have a reasonable story they can use to counter those attacks (even on immigration they can point to republican game playing in the lower house to highlight their failures on this issue)

democrats will try to frame this election around womens issues and healthcare more broadly - this will be a decisive political fault line come nov ..... given whats transpired politically, criminally and institutionally over recent years its easy to see why they have gone in this hard

The ad is so hyperbolic and over the top that you can't take it seriously. It looks more like a parody than a real ad.

They even chucked buckets of water over everyone to make them look like sweaty sex offenders. Embarrassing.

Have to disagree with the general rudeness thing, I spent 2 months over there in Nov/Dec/Jan and all of the people I met were super friendly (way more friendly than I find Europeans).

It all depends where you go I guess, I love the cities and the urban jungle feel to them. There is just so much to see/do/eat in the US

I honestly didn't notice the whack jobs either, I recon you have to travel to small towns and the suburbs of conservative cities to notice it. They don't exactly hang out in Brooklyn.

Side note - if you end up Munich make sure you explore the North as well. Berlin and Hamburg are two of the most amazing cities I've been to, definitely more interesting than Baveria.

To be honest, that's how people see the anti-abortion, homophobic, Christian nationalist creeps.

The ad has got SFA to do with the DNC or Biden-Harris campaign team. Adds nothing to the discussion - we don’t need reminding there are fruit loops in America (given the size of its population).

But it ill speak to a section of the population.

Yeah I won't disagree with what you said. When your only exposure is that loud minority online, one will naturally have a skewered opinion. Of course there will be lots of nice people around too. Sadly first impressions can sometimes stop people from seeing the wider range.

And for sure. The only reason Munich, is purely because I know someone there that may be able to accommodate, which makes things cheaper. Always wanted to live in Germany, and spend a lot of time there, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands all in particular. Of course the coastal zones of Italy, Croatia and Greece would be up there too. Don't actually care that much for France or England. Something about all those gothic architecture of some of those German cities look cool as. Though much of it was destroyed in the war.

The US is a country of 350m+ people, it is a diverse country full of wackjobs, but also full of brilliant people. Millions more people voted for Biden (and Clinton when she ran) than for Trump. You can't lump them all into one bucket. I've enjoyed visiting the US from places as contrasting as LA/NY to Nashville Tennessee and can't complain about the people at all. Just avoid talking politics to those you disagree with.

I too used to adore all things US when i was in high school (a long long time ago) due to the influence and importance of Sport and culture, but even a bit of age and maturity quickly lead me to enjoy going to EUrope much much more, but it's not for the people in general as many Europeans can be put off by tourists (fair enough).

Heading over early October leaving 3 days after the election, for what will be my 5th trip since 2015, i have found the exact opposite with dealing with people, for whatever reason they love Aussies, everyone wants to chat, the interesting thing was what they feared the most about Australia as a rule, it was spiders.

Will be going through Texas / Dallas-San Antonio- Houston, then NOLA -Pidgeon Forge and Nashville finishing in Vegas, the wife and i have both said we will not get engaged in political talk for our own safety, but outside of that have zero concerns.

They keep catching you and putting you on a plane home?

It's true that you should refrain from talking politics though.

I remember talking to a nice boomer couple at a bar in Detroit and they were asking me about my travels so far. I told them I'd been to both California and Florida and preferred Cali as it was basically Florida without the racism and a better climate.

That set them off on all the reasons they don't like Californians  There really is a divide on ideals there, much more than here.
