List Mgmt. 2024 Young Talent Time (Drafting)

I'm not sure how those 3 draftees will solve our wing issue. I.agree our wings aren't the strongest.

I'd like Berry for his defensive forward pressure and ability to kick goals
I really enjoy the draft, but don't claim to be a expert on it. From what I can Gather Lindsay plays as an outside/Balanced Mid, He was also named all Australian U18 on the Wing.

I also have a sense the quality drops off this year after around the top 20. If we can't take a high quality prospect who would strengthen our depth in the two clear weaknesses to our list I'd probably rather see the Pick 14 be pushed into next year and used as collateral for potential trades for Kozzy or Chad.

It's probably unlikely any of those three would become solid regular contributors next year but it's also a little unlikely next year is the year we push all the way for the flag. (Not saying it's impossible).

I think this list build is starting to reach a critical stage where we really have just about everything we need and there is more benefit to playing the same 25-26 together as often as possible while adding clear top 10 list quality talent through trade as they come available. I feel another quality Winger is the main thing we are missing apart from a mercurial mid sized fwd, and we just got one of those.

I have to say I really like Allan and if we bring him in I look forward to watching him developing. But I feel like we have enough on ball size coming through and want opportunity to go to Erasmus and Johnson.

I like the skills and abilities to play multiple positions that Berry, Travaglia, Hannaford and Davis show.

Travaglia if he gets to us may directly resolve any wing issues we have in time, or he may release Chapman.

Some KPPs getting jumped on early will be a big positive for our options.

The great thing about pick 14 is it really looks like it’s close to where the consensus top end talent starts to drop off.

I think we’ll be delighted by who we end up with.

Assuming Smith, O’Sullivan, Draper, Smillie & Lalor are off the board.

You’d assume a couple of key position players are going to go off the board thinking Armstrong & Tauru.

It’s then just take your pick from who is left from….

Lindsay
Travaglia
Trainor
Hotton
Langford
Berry
Allan
Shanahan
Reid

You could honestly make a case for any of these kids.

Cal’s phantom draft will be fascinating
.

As 20 kg heavier guy would find it very difficult to keep up with smaller guy zigzaging thru the traffic isn't it?
It is not all about size I think...It is more about balance of height and strenght(bigger players) and skill, speed and stamina(smaller guys)...By the way Richmond premiership side had 1 player taller than 195cm

We aren't talking about talls and smalls like they are rucks and terriers though.

Cal gets the inside info from clubs. Always pay attention to him late.

Anyone see value in Will Hayes late?

I'm hearing Bell really likes the kid and is pushing for the club to bid at pick 30, so the Eagles miss him or they burn their picks for next year.
Bell seems to have moved more to a back seat these days so I’m not sure that he has much input. I don’t even know what his job title is. Walls is the one that needs to like the kid and 30 is way too high for Champion in my opinion.

The Eagles haven’t yet indicated whether they will nominate him for the academy draft bid option.

Top 4 in 2km time trial , top 3 agility, his top end speed is very good AND is highly rated kick

Perfect for developing small /half forward

Yeah…if we could end up with a mix of Berry, Hannaford and him I’d be fairly happy.

Highlights he looks very nippy

Will Hayes is an intriguing talent who hasn't always found consistent form this year but has more than enough about him to have clubs interested come the November draft. This was one of his best performances for the season showing his lovely turn of pace, agility to dodge and weave around opponents, strong disposal skills and the moxie to take the game on with attacking and decisive play.

Is crazy skilled, athletic, determined and loves Freo. Size would be my only concern but rookie pick would be perfect.

Taj Hotton is a player that’s hard to place in this draft. The ACL is an obvious concern but he was touted as top 10 pick before it happened.

Wonder if he’d slide to 30? Reminds me a bit of Brayden George that went to North a few years back, in terms of the situation he’s in.

Bastyy Ysaye Chris25

Where do you guys see him landing and would we have interest at 14 or 30?

I Haven't watched much footage this year but the most impressive kid I have seen that might be around our pick is Lindsay, he looked like Hayden Young 2.0 to me from the highlights I saw, he is hard at the contest too. He is my favourite so far from what will be (maybe) available to us.

Champion is WC NGA so no one really cares as a bid won’t be before 30 and they will match, unless we get the feeling WC don’t have a list spot available.
That might happen, if they fill up their main list with national draft picks and we can pick him after that with a late national draft pick. Depends how many main list spots they have open, I have no idea.

They've just delisted 3 players, and they've only got three national draft picks.

I would be very happy if we bid on Champion at 30. As I've said, I think he's got the tools to be a really special player, and to be honest going early doesn't seem to matter all that much. We're not in a position where we need to absolutely instantly nail every draft pick, we can take some moonshots. (Also West Coast going into deficit also tactically helps us next year, technically, if we're chasing Warner/Pickett. Not tremendously, because they've got a healthy draft hand from the Barass picks + whatever they get from Reid when he asks for a lifeboat off the Titanic.)
