List Mgmt. 2024 Young Talent Time (Drafting)

Heard an interview with Malakai Champion this afternoon and he was asked to pick 3 from WA that he thought might be drafted this year, and he went for Bo Allan, Kayle Gerryn and Luke Urquhart. So he probably chucked up 3 names from a question he wasn't prepared for, but it does make me wonder how many WA players might get picked up in this draft.

Without making this question seem like a "draft WA kids" post, out of the 75 or so players that get added to AFL lists this year (including rookies/train on players, but not recycled AFL players) what numbers do draft watchers expect will be from WA:

5 or less
5-10,
more than 10
Wasn't the list that went to the draft camp supposedly the worst ever group by some experts?
Not sure many will go based on that assessment.

The journo that got hit by the truck, Sam Landsberger stated that in a story at the start of the year.
WA came 3rd in the Nationals, and really were close to beating Vic Country at Claremont Oval.
Think it was hyperbole on the journo's part (RIP) myself

Which experts? The Vic centric ones? Not saying the WA talent pool is amazing, but they performed reasonably well against supposedly much superior teams in the Allies, Vic C and Vic M. And thrashed SA. I don't think the WA crop is too bad and think there is decent value in the late/rookie chances like Boxshall (he may go a bit earlier), Hayes, Angove, Artemis, Dennis, Urquhart.

There might also be an element that next year's WA crop is supposed to have more high end talent, so this year's crop is marked a bit harshly in comparison.

I saw where Bo Allen was angry about how the pool was assessed by the experts, and yes probably from Melbourne.
But people like Sheehan are generally pretty spot on with assessments of our talent.
I have not heard what his thoughts are.

If Berry is gone by our pick I’m starting to get a good feeling about Cooper Hynes watching his highlights looks like he could be a gem

Looks quite a competitor, clean hands and a strong body. The sort of later first/early second round pick that knuckles down on his running work and suddenly turns into Jordan DeGoey

You’ve got to be careful with Sheehan IMO. Ask him about any draftee and he starts talking about them like they’re his own child - i.e. they’re the best everything, can’t do anything wrong etc.

Think his lists on best say small forwards, midfielders, key backs etc. go alright though. Put them together and see how many WA players they are in that group (probably 50+ players so there’s a few).

Ablett, is a West Aussie. He seems to know his stuff.
We seldom hear from our WA footy experts on our draftees. So can only go by what the wise men from the East say.

Ranked in top 20 in twomey rankings

Reminded me a bit if Morabito for some reason…

How would you feel reading that if your player comparison was Atkins or Redmond when every other bloke is Pendlebury, Chad or Stewart?

Further to that, seems we can get Nick Riewoldt at 19... decent get.

It’s got me…
I was thinking Murphy Reid sounds like a battler no wonder he’s “sliding”

Read he’s like Harry Sheezle. So now I’m gonna be bitterly disappointed if he’s not a docker
