List Mgmt. 2024 Young Talent Time (Drafting)

Well Bell has gone, and his opinion could be at odds with the list manager, and irrelevant, but he suggested our list could still use another good ball user off half back. That used to be Hayden Young. Maybe we're looking for someone like that.
I'd say its definitely on the cards. We have been linked to Harrison Oliver this year and The Age had Angus Clarke at 38 in their phantom draft but said "Sydney and Fremantle have also shown interest in Clarke". Both these guys fit the bill and would be chances for our pick 30

The first rounder should be the best young talent the rest of the draft we need mature agers that can impact right away. The club chose to take Bolton for our first few picks. You can’t just dip your finger as an all in approach to win a flag. You need to throw everything in. Choosing Bolton and using our first round picks to get him should suggest an all in approach. The club needs to go all in stop pussy footing around
Are there many good mature age players around? I thought the talent is in kids and mature agers haven't been picked up yet because they are limited.

Pretty sure somewhere in this thread we were linked to Harrison Oliver, who could be a good get with our second pick. Although either Lindsay or Travaglia at our first would be handy, as well.

Ive got chronic fatigue so I go to a ton of doctors appointments that run late and I take my laptop and look up draft info. I get what a few have said about Hottons highlights being uninspiring but after looking into match report comments about how he played in games they describe his skills as elite and the highlight package look like it came from only two games or so. One said he excells at the difficult skill of kicking through the corridor.

This view is backed up on the Rookie Central Facebook page. He was in white hot form when he got injured and I think he could very well have ended up top 5 if he didnt get injured as he went from someone not talked about to a star in just a few games. One of the guys who has direct contact with Kevin Sheenan said the talent scouts didnt eve cover Hottons first two games so he was coming from a long way back but after some scouts viewed the games before he got injured there was talk of him going top 5 if he continued improvement with his class with ball in hand described as his best asset.
Statistically his last few games were insanely good with his 7.3 marks over the season showing he can move around the ground and link up play which is definitely a need for us long term as it would allow Bolton to stay close to goal. In all honesty he's now equal with Lindsay and Berry as my top choices as all three fill a long term need while improving our foot skills is our major team need particularly in the front half. Hotton also reportedly has very good pace and endurance so potentially long term he could a wing option.
The ACL won’t be the only risk. If his purple patch came off only a few games, it’s very hard to know if it was sustained improvement or if he just got lucky with his match ups.

When players dominate in the preseason, never assume they are going to do it during the real stuff. I see this as a similar vibe, although have no real clue how he will go long term. Goal kickers are always handy though and the knack is hard to teach.

Just read both profiles. Look like Clarke is very row and younger and hence more upside and can play both end and bit taller ?

Going all in also means another decade+ of being shit if it misses in those 3-5 years. I think it would be smarter to not all in and build a sustainably good club.

Got the link?

Much different situation.

We never assumed we would be able to snag a KPF, we hoped we could. Fremantle always knew it was unlikely, snagging quality KPFs rarely happens.

You don't know the conversations that have already happened. Freo would be very aware of the likelihood of them moving over or not.

Every list decision is a risk. If one of them has told us they will move over next season, and then they don't, there's a good chance that the current group of small forwards wouldn't be improved that much by a guy like Berry anyway, at least in the short term.
I don't really care whether it's 1% of happening or 90% chance of happening tbh.

Every draft pick is a risk but I'd rather draft what we need and if a gun opposition player is available that plays the same role so be it. There's always room for a gun player even if you'd rather they play a slightly different role.

No part of our team is so bad that players 19-28 on our list will lose us a Grand Final. We need players 1-12 to be really good and players 13-18 to be pretty good though and I'm not sure we're quite there yet.
