Dyson’s immediate focus is to “become faster, stronger and a more explosive player”.

The young Essendon supporter said if anyone had told him at the start of the year that he would be in the position he was in now, he wouldn’t have believed it.

“Honestly, if someone had told me I was going to be in this state I’d tell you ‘no way’.

Had a bit do to with them down on the coast and I'm 99% certai if there was a choice to be made, he would be off to the D's.

However, I would be surprised if either club made a play for him. He is not particularly good, and the continued selection in various elite programs does nothing to dispel the claims of nepotism for kids involved in northern academies who have fathers from southern clubs.

Talls can develop at different rates though, and there is definitely something there - but he is miles off it currently. Barely got a kick in local u19s this year.
yeah, I've definitely heard mixed reviews. I've seen him play once and this was after I'd heard that he was barely a draft able talent so my expectations were low. And he only had about 6 touches playing in defence but he was better than I expected. 200cm, extremely agile with good foot skills and will probably have one of the best vertical leaps in the draft pool. So I think his athletic profile gets him drafted and drafted in the top 30.

Glad we finally have a few academy kids coming through again. Prevents our recruiters from playing silly buggers with our round 1 pick.

Obviously a long way to go and unlikely to happen, but it'll be interesting to see what happens if Sydney has multiple first round talents and make a prelim which limits them to one first round bid match.

His "potential" was the word I was told from a player from the chargers when talking about the academy selection of Kalini.

he would be almost zero chance to even play senior footy at QAFL level in 2025.

Suns might roll him out in the VFL, but obviously talls develop at different rates and he has good bloodlines. However, if his surname wasn't White nobody would have heard of him.

A list of prompts for the draft experts to think about for 2025.

Pick 1.
The first player bid on.
The biggest slider.
The biggest riser.
This crop's Aidan Johnson/Jacob Molier equivalent.
First SA prospect taken.
First WA prospect.
First VM prospect.
First Allies prospect.
ND count.
MSD count.
First round pick count.
CTL winners.
U18 winners.
Amount of night one draft invitees.
Callum Twomey's favourite.
2026 draft No. 1.
Total AFL debutantes for 2025.

Wow, I'd had Chamberlain as our 3rd best draft option based on...., nothing more than BF talk and a few match reports. Could that be the issue?
He reminds me a bit of a young Blakey, I feel he could really surge up having a more prominent role for the Allies next year.

Do you have a source for this? Feels counter to the changes they were trying to make.

2025 CHANGES

DRAFT VALUE INDEX (DVI)/BIDDING SYSTEM

There will be a new framework implemented from next year that aims to restore fair value. The new DVI will see points allocated up until the end of the third round. This means that clubs won’t be able to stockpile a range of late picks to gain access to talent bid on early in the draft.

A 10% discount will be applied on all bids from selection 1 to 18 follow by an 84-point deduction for all bids from selection 19 to 36.

Matching a bid in the first round will be matched using equivalent DVI points. To match a bid after the first round, this will be done using equivalent DVI points up to selection 36. Clubs will match with their next selection from pick 37 onwards.
There will be no restrictions for Northern Academy clubs based on ladder position.
  • Restriction on Northern Academies: There will be no restrictions based on ladder finishing position for Northern Academy clubs.

Mcguane been training with the pies vfl side this week before he trains with the afl side next week.
Something I think when I see him is class. His vision and footy IQ, his elite kicking.
Looks like he's grown and put on some size.

Luke Quaynor and Tadhg Mccarthy were rejected from the afl to play as overagers for oakleigh (not sure why, too many games in a 2 year period?, Tadhg didn't seem to know for sure) so they'll just be on the pies vfl list.

You dont need that rule with the right points value index. The amount of points you need to match a 1st rounder, will make it hard enough to match several early bids in itself.

I was thinking more in situations where there's two end of first round talents, especially if the first round ends out into the mid 20s again.

Looks like it's an academic discussion anyway.

Riley Onley and Mcguane had their first training session yesterday. Riley looks much bigger than his 190cm suggests. He's a big boy.
Tommy has skills you can't teach, also lead the conditioning from the whole squad. And in some of the drills, did some things you wouldn't often see someone his size.
He's also grown to 180cm and put on some size.

Look at the height of these lads. When I expressed some concern about the elimination of players/people under 179cm..many laughed....it's pretty obvious now surely?

There are 12 players under 179cm on that list and 8 over 195cm

So I think you're probably jumping at shadows.

Lachie Neale is going pretty well, as will the bloke occupying the locker next to him next year.
