Footy terms I hope are left in 2024:

"Aura"
"Underrated"
"Like Dusty"
"Champion Data"

“Sydney down by 10 goals in the grand final”

Give us Your Top 3 things you're looking forward to this year in no particular order:

My first 2 are horribly obvious and revolve around coaching.
  • What changes will Cox bring to the team? Nervous and yet excited.
  • McVeigh's impact on our VFL team. Was a dogs breakfast last year - let's see what he can do.
  • Our first home game. Nothing beats walking into the SCG surrounded by the red & white faithful

It will take a few games to be able to judge those first two but I too am hopeful that they will be positives.

1. Seeing what, if anything, changes under Dean Cox. It's the first time in over a decade I have literally no idea what to expect from the coaches box, even if Cox is hardly new to the club. If nothing else, that unknown element is exciting on its own.

2. Sounds silly, but just watching guys like Heeney and Rowbottom and Gulden playing footy again while we have them. Fans have, understandably, put the playing group in the naughty corner over the off-season, but when these guys are being inducted into the club's hall of fame 15 years from now, we'll be wishing we could enjoy their careers all over again.

3. Hopefully me getting to a few more games in Sydney! I fell in love with the city & the SCG on my brief but memorable trip a few years back.

I see Mark Robinson has retired as Chief footy writer at the HSun (only turned 57 on Christmas Day).

Over the years I've been happy to pile on 'Slobbo' but he'll certainly come out on the right side of history with regards to Adam Goodes.

A couple of quotes from Robbo;
regarding the booing of Goodes;

The answer — it is said — is because he plays for free kicks, that he used to slide into contests, that he dives and that he is a whinger.

And if you believe those to be the reasons, you’re an imbecile.

There are those who boo because they believe Goodes is a flog and there those who boo because others are booing. And there are also those who boo because they are racists.
What is going to happen is Goodes will be booed into retirement because he made a stand against racism.

The AFL can’t do anything but plead for common sense and decency, which is what AFL boss Gillon McLachlan did yesterday.
People can either listen to McLachlan or ignore him.

If you want to listen to him, then stop the booing. It’s as simple as that.

And if you choose to ignore him, then congratulations — you are now part of one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the AFL.

regarding the 'war dance';
Mcguire called it pseudo-political, Lyon and Barrett called it over the top, Robbo on the other hand defended it and called it '' five seconds of passion'

Sure Polo boy and the AFL finally got onboard, but it was Robbo who from the start was a constant critic of the booing of Adam and asking for Goodes to be given a 'fair go'.

It should also be remembered he was writing for News Corp hardly a beacon when it come to race relations.

The AFL in general came out of the Goodes saga poorly, one of the few few that came out with credit was Mark Robinson.
Well done Robbo. :thumbsu:

I'll sound like an old grumpy bastard but I am not looking forward to the year at the moment.

I think AFL in general has gotten harder to watch , I tend to just follow us. I think anything we do matters for f all until we win the big one and I believe we are unlikely to get back there.

Kind of dreading all the highlights of brisbane winning that come with a new season.

I'll get over it 🤣

I've been enjoying the Mongrel Punt previews. You need to be a member to get the most from them but as usual they are well written and thoughtful. He's going in reverse ladder order so it'll be a while before we get to us but the other teams are a good read.
