Need to hit a few picks tomorrow, cat B Irish and a rookie.

Did I miss anyone?
Keen to see how MacDonald goes.

I'm still concerned Cox is too slow for our game style.

Dec 2023 to Nov 2024 list changes, tried to line them up as like for like as I could, overall we’ve lost a bit of height, but I think it’s fair to say the quality has improved with nearly every selection.
Out : In
Kuek : Voss
Tabs : Nichols
Hughes : Kelm*
Corbett : Carr
Stanley : Reid
Emmett : Narkle*
Williams : Bolton

Kelm and Narkle are to be confirmed, but when you do this like for like comparison the Nichols draft selection makes sense. Personally was hoping for Gerryen for that role, but in Walls we trust.

I like to split mine over both Fremantle and Peel, to highlight any potential holes in depth.

Fremantle
FB: Ryan Pearce Walker
HB: Clark Cox Chapman
C: Sharp Fyfe* O'Meara*
HF: Bolton Treacy Switkowski
FF: Sturt Amiss Frederick

Fol: Darcy Serong Brayshaw
Int: Wagner Jackson Walters* Young

Peel
FB: Draper Murphy Worner
HB: Aish McDonald [medium defender]
C: [wing] Erasmus* O'Driscoll*
HF: Emmett Voss Simpson
FF: Banfield [kpf] Delean

Fol: Reidy Brodie Johnson
Int: Davies Knobel Jones

* Players that will likely start in the team, but ideally need to be pushed out by the end of the year. We've got Fyfe and O'Meara covered with Erasmus and O'Driscoll if they come on, we still need a Walters replacement in the draft.

I know Walls said we were pretty stacked for defenders, but I feel like we could do with a medium to replace Hughes. A decent value KPF would be nice to replace Tabs, too.

Two of Berry/Hannaford and Shanahan/Faull, with a late wing option could set us up nicely.

After some shuffling around we're looking a lot more balanced after the draft. If we can snag Toner and then Kelm as a Cat B, that rounds is out pretty nicely.

2025 is an inflection point between the old and the young for FFC.

I think 2024 was the last year when we had to include old and wise heads substantially because they are old and wise. The players I am thinking of are Walters/Fyfe/O'Meara.

Overall in 2024, despite some good games and special moments, Walters was C grade, Fyfe B- and O'Meara B.
In 2025 Walters and Fyfe are likely to slide further and O'Meara stay much the same.
I think it is a huge mistake to play all 3 in the best 23.

At the same time we have young players that age-wise should be at the start of their prime (ie 4th/5th season) who through lack of opportunity and injury are yet to prove that they have a long-term future in the best 23. I'm thinking Erasmus/Johnson/O'Driscoll. They have to be given consistent runs in the firsts in 2025 for everyone to know where they sit in our plans. IMO it would be disastrous if they lacked opportunity because we played Walters/Fyfe/O'Meara.

We are blessed with on-field leadership because the likes of Brayshaw/Serong/Treacy play and lead like they have 5 years more experience than they have. Much of what Walters/Fyfe/O'Meara bring is now surplus to our needs.

I hope the 2025 selection committee are bold and choose the team based on what is best for 2025-2030.

I'd be happy to target a rebounding half back today. Probably agree that if Toner was the most likely prospect available, and we're taking Kelm projecting him as a half back, that's fair.

We've got some depth down back, but could do with developing some ball use and rebound, longer term replacement on Wagner's role.

We aren’t taking anyone today, re-draft Knobel and go for Friday drinks is the agenda for today

I agree with this team

Except Banfield the ball butcher. Aish for Sub. He is far cleaner with ball

Am I correct, even with Kelm and Narkle we’ve only got 43 players on our list?
You’re missing Omeara

I like this team a lot, think it’s closer to our 2026 B22 (or perhaps 2025 finals team) imagine if all those youngsters have a massive preseason and round one WAFL Peel team has Reidy, Fyfe, Brodie and JOM lining up for the first centre bounce!

Edit: I’d update some of the positions of the reserve team:

Reserves 22
Walters Voss Riddle
Carr Nichols Simpson
Banfield Brodie Reid
Wagner Murphy Aish
Davies Macdonald Worner
Reidy Fyfe O’Meara
Int: Delean, Jones, Kelm (?), Narkle (?)

I think Aish is almost the perfect sub. B-grade player almost all over the ground, and good disposal. Banners always seems to score as a sub though. Good place to be in for the squad.

Based on this season, Draper over Cox.

Presuming we have a relatively healthy list, if more than one of Fyfe/Walters/JOM are in the team each week, I’m off the JL wagon.

Same

We won't win a premiership with guys who can't play at their best. Fyfe is past it with poor skills and Omera's knees are cooked. Walters has the skills but is injury prone too plus doesn't impact like he use to.

We need to properly develop our next group of players or find better ones.

I hope this is our r1 23 but you just know Fyfe, Walters, Omeara will be selected.
I posted similar way back in the thread. We must make some tough calls
I'm disappointed it may be a "tough call". We're here to win a premiership and player selection is a major component of that.

There isn't even anything to consider as an alternative to selecting the side which is most likely to win the game we are heading into. We're not rebuilding and therefore prioritising getting development games into young players. And I reckon Fyfe and Walters would be pretty unhappy if they felt they were getting games they didn't deserve.

Longmuir has no leeway here. He simply must move the needle towards premiership contesting mode. Anything less than that should have career implications for him.
