Narkle or Simpson will both be gunning for his spot
We said no to Narkle.
If Freddy is over looked because of a quiet 2024, who do you replace him with? set shots and speed on the ball going forward he's pretty elite. His defensive pressure dropped off a bit this year and hes not taking marks or crumbing well but that speed going forward with Shai on the other side is going to scare a lot of teams

I would wait until after the draft.

Someone like Joe Berry would but pressure on him.

Given I've been so critical of Freddy's 2024 season, and also acknowledging he's not a high stats player, I thought I might check some anyway.

Ave disposals - 26th in team
Effective disposals - 26th
Disposal efficiency - 31st
Ave tackles - =24th
Ave tackles inside 50 - 10th (behind Voss, Amiss, Tabs, Walters, Treacy and others.
Goal assists Ave - 9th
Score involvements Ave - 13th!
Supercoach - 25th
Dream team - 25th

I'm sticking with my opinion that he's borderline best 22. This is a guy who finished top 10 in the Doig in 2023. Needs to be better in 2025 or find a new position because I think I'd favour Bolton and Sturt.

Losing Schulz was a major blow for the pressure types. Hopefully with Shai in, Frederick can have a career best season

Those stats feel hand picked to suit an agenda tbh.

From Freo only Treacy and Amiss scored more goals in 2024. I doubt anyone but Sturt is added to that list if based on average goals either.

This is a guy that plays the majority of his footy on the HFF. He’d be lower for tackles inside 50 than most of our other forwards based off where he plays (more outside 50) alone.

Think he had a down year but he’d be in the first 15-16 selected.
I agree. I think Freddys performances were way better than his stat show. In fact he was in scoring positions a ton more than most small forwards but the ball was consistently kicked over his head or at his feet. Particularly in the first six and ;ast 4 games. Early in the year he had Banfield and Emmett butchering the ball while Walters and Brayshaw had the kicking yips while late in the year it was Sharp missing him. I remember games where he was missed numero times n a quarter. His formline was similar to Amiss and I think it was for the same reason..

In terms of next year Im very optimistic he'll have by far his best season. He's had his last two preseason interrupted by injury which obviously effect a player who relies on repeat running like he does. He was flying last preseason and was even discussed as a possible winger. Not only that but he will benefit in two ways with the arrival of Bolton in that not only get the oppositions second best quick defender but he'll have a player with elite ball use to deliver him the ball. I also think potentially our ball use into the 50 will improve a ton next year. Hopefully Sturt can have a big prseson sohe can win the ball more around the ground more while our midfield could improve a lot if we have Sharp paired with two consitsenty kicks. I think our best chances are NOD and Chapman improve their kicking consistency they could provide that; Johnson could the play mostly onball with Fyfe then not in th team due to team balance which would also improve our team balance.

What that means is we now add Sharp to the main list and Narkle is added to the rookie giving us 6 rookies and 3 list spots at the draft. Ive checked out Narkle and I think he adds more than people think He's played mostly as a midfieldr at VFL and SANFL level in recent years having some very big games and at AFL level last year as he did better than his stats show as he was sub in 8 of the 13 games he played. He had two injuries in the 1st half of the year so he played SANFLon his return but in Round 12 he returned to AFL and kept his place in all but onegame where he was dropped after a series of games as sub. He had quite a few games where he was on the ground around 23 minutes and he got 4-7 possesions which would mean he's doing better than most games our subs played last year bar WAgnr and one game by NOD. His two running looks to have improved a ton according to some Prt supporters I asked. He's. been picked as a sub due to kicking skills which are elite bar his goal kicking.

I think it’s Worner being upgraded.

When he was re-signed AFL rules were that if you’d done three years on the rookie list the two options were upgrade or delist.

Under the new rules we don’t have to upgrade him but both him and the club would’ve been of the understanding he was getting upgraded so that’s what I expect the club to do.

Expecting the club to still keep players on the rookie list for three years as much as possible tbh. Draper and Sharp have both hit the games criteria already so would need to be upgraded end of 2025 and 2026 respectively.

If Sturt has a great pre season. Holy shit is he going to go off. Him with a fourth choice defender. Will be unreal

I think it was Freddy last preseason when asked about Sturt (before he was injured) mentioned Sturt was in the top group of sprinters at the club with him Clark, Walker, and Switta so four of our fastest in Switta, Freddy, Bolton and Sturt in our forward line while Jackson, Amiss and Cyclone also very quick.

With Bolton he probably gets the 5th defender at times.

Really hope we get Berry, to provide some crumbing, plus the ability to hit a target.

Chris25 is up soon in the big footy draft, and Berry is still on the table. I have my pitch forks ready :)

What I think we'll see round one, assuming the sub rule stays and everyone is fit.

Ryan Pearce Walker

Clarke Cox Chapman

NOD Young Sharp

Bolton Treacy Switta

Jackson Amiss Freddy

Ruck - Darcy Brayshaw Serong

Int - Fyfe JOM Johnson Sturt

Sub - Walters

Good but I'd have Aush in for Fyfe or JOM as he is the better player. Unlucky Draper

Think we need to find room for Draper, with continued development he has all the tools to be next level. With his neat disposal, he has the capacity for Nick Blakey levels of run & carry.

Draper shapes as an ideal off the bench player next year.
I’ve got Switta taking Walters spot on the bench with Sam Sturt coming into HFF in place of Switta.
Erasmus pushes O’Meara out and I’m picking Banners to take Fyfey’s spot there but as the sub if the AFL
Retain it which I’m not sure that they will. In that situation Banners takes Nat Fyfes spot on the bench.

Emergency : Wagner

Thought Aish was great in the defensive wing role in 2022. Not sure why he was pushed back to defence in 2024.

JOM coming to Fremantle has been a safe pick. Over it now. He shouldn’t be close to best 25 this season. But alas, he’s leadership and ‘experienced’.
