Dale is priced at 98 and has gone 100+ precisely once (102).

How much value is he really? Surely in that price range you are looking for kent's that jump up to 105+? Where/how does he do that?
I said ‘some’ value, not exceptional value. He has the propensity to churn out big scores, but doesnt do it consistently enough for long periods of time. I guess it’s a more of a hope than anything.

Kind of really need someone in that price bracket that does a 2024 Whitfield.

I feel as if the defensive line was far easier to fill this time last year. I already knew I was taking Daicos/Sheezel/Young and a cut price Zilliams @D5 - but this year its Sheezel, Mills and crickets, although it is early.

Not really keen on any of the top 10 as starting picks bar Sheez and Sinc, and the next tier down in the $500-$575 bracket don’t really excite me due to round 0 and my thoughts on value.

If Stewart was playing as a full-time mid i’d probably take a punt on him, maybe.

I agree I wouldn't start him but he did finish the year strong after the bye with 8/11 Tons and 1 game was subbed out.
Averaged a tick under 115 in a 7-game stretch there. It was quite welcome after he sharted all over my defensive line for about 5-6 weeks prior to that.

Stewart is only 31, he’s really not that old.

Got subbed out twice last year for 62 and 33. Besides those he didn’t go under 75. Previous years average were 113, 110, 108. Priced at 97. Played 22, 22 and 17 (Prestia suspension) games in them years.

Seems like a good pick to me. I like him the most of out of the cheaper premo defenders.

Impressive argument you make. The guy is a gun.

Reckon one small obstacle for him might be Lawson Humphries. At times over the past 4 or 5 years we had to get the ball to Stewart as he was the only elite kick down back. We have now added Humphries from nowhere who does not miss a target, so Stewart shouldn’t be as relied on as heavily. Having said that, intercept contested marks are SC gold and there is no reason why they will disappear.

Humphries probably won’t get as much of the ball as Holmes did playing down back? Sounds like Holmes is gonna be a full time midfielder?

Yeah possibly. Holmes still spent a fair chunk of time in the middle last year, and Humphries will get plenty of kick outs going forward, he’s as accurate a kick as I’ve seen in the hoops for a while.

Call it a gut feeling but i wouldnt be surprised if Dale had a 110 season in him.

I remember starting him at D2 in 2023 as I was assured he was going to be the main man down there. Disaster pic, not sure I could do it again.

Was averaging 80 at round 9 and finished with a 90 average for the season.

After his shocking start to last year and his subsequent subbed game, he ended up averaging 106 for the rest of the season. Certainly has it in him. Also coincidentally lines up roughly with Richards moving to become a perma mid instead of HBF. They don’t really have anyone else as a prime mover back there except JJ who’s basically done with soft tissue injuries hitting him harder and harder each year

Has this been confirmed ?
I haven’t seen anything confirming but he was pretty much a pure midfielder for them last year from about round 7 on so I’d be surprised if that changes. Dogs board unanimously have him in the team as a mid now

Few tag games as well. With a bit of luck i could see him do it. He's in my side at the moment but not a lock by any means

It was his consistency that drew me to him, he has a good SuperCoach game. The Bevo role changes and tags were hard to take, he was one of the most frustrating owns I’ve had, we’ve all been there, it’s hard to go back. 😀

I've had Dale in the past, he's great until he gets tagged and goes completely to water.

Should be the main distributor now though. Can see the upside for sure.

He's a bit like Sicily, can go huge, can have purple patches, can also have a shocker or two.

I’d probably prefer to take a punt on a round 0 player like Sic or Sexy Tom at that price.

Round 12 is also looking like a desolate wasteland for my current setup so I’m unlikely to take another player from that bye round, for now.

As usual Bevo was experimenting early on We always seem to start poorly. Dale settled as the main man once Bramble and Freijah roles settled and Richards went permo mid. Richards won’t be leaving the mid anytime soon.

So Dale is the sole guy pretty much?

I was very keen on Kerch a few months ago, cooled off since then, but now he's popped back into my head.

Is the expectation that Kerch stays down back, with Daniel taking Fisher's spot?

He averaged 105 after coming back into the side last year. I reckon if he stays down back, with no random stints in midfield, then he can easily hit that, if not higher. I expect North to improve, but they'll still be a bottom 8 side, so the ball will be down there a lot. Kerch seems like a Sheezel-esque seagull, always demands the ball and knows where to find it.

Yeah talk of Fish playing forward. Both Daniel and Kerch viable options then.

Bramble runs it out of defence and Freijah kicks it well, but Dale is getting still the no 1 kicking role in our back half.
