MELBOURNE defender Judd McVee is waiting until returning from injury before getting into his contract talks, but is expected to remain at the Demons.

The rookie success story is another three weeks away from returning from his pre-season hamstring and is expected to pick up contract talks early in the season once he is back playing.

The East Fremantle product is out of contract but is settled at Melbourne and expected to stay at the club, likely on a shorter-term deal such as a two-year extension.

McVee, 21, has become a pivotal member of the Demons' defence, playing 48 games over the past two seasons since making his debut at the start of 2023.

West Coast and Fremantle are heavily in the trade and free agency market this year, with the likes of Chad Warner, Brandon Starcevich, Darcy Cameron and Kysaiah Pickett all weighing WA interest. However, McVee is not considered likely to be in that bracket. – Callum Twomey

Very stoked if he stayed.

Sounds crazy but losing him would have been devastating as we wouldn't have got anything for him. If Koz goes we will probably be decently well compensated. He's tracking like he could be an AA level half back flank and has composure and skills that we really need.

Absolute must keep. I'd say Koz is as well but that sounds an inevitably that he goes in the next few years unfortunately.

I think we’re a chance to keep Kozzy for another season. But will depend on Freo coughing up enough. As Kane Cornes said about Houston it would suck trading him for bugger all and then he cuts you to pieces.

Because they want players who can kick. Pretty obvious.
Yep, ill take an obsession with guys that can kick over tall forwards, ruckman and inside mids. Thats fine with me.

Why the hell are we after Farrell? This club is obsessed with loading every line we have with defenders, then bringing in more.

Better not be some trash offer like we put up with Houston.

My guess it's because he's an excellent kick, and a free agent.

Not that hard to work out 🤷‍♂️

Whoever rips his arm off first gets him?
Sure. But then he'd be one armed. And he can't regen limbs. Unless he secretly has that ability. Would be cool though. The ability to regen limbs, that is.

I alway thought when Luke Jackson left and we got the Brayshaw money that we would be cashed up to get some decent players but we're never aligned to anyone....? or have I missed an obvious one?

Guys like Bailey Smith (admittedly a risky choice with our culture issues), Leek Aleer, Peatling, Barrass, Battle, Matt Kennedy, Perryman, Lloyd Meek, Ben McKay, Chol, D'Ambrosio, etc. and we're just never linked to anyone. My point isn't to break down all of the players listed and say like 'he's a scrub etc' it's more to show that we're never linked to anyone and I wonder where has our money gone? We also had all the money from Grundy leaving.

Supposedly we had Dan Houston for 2 firsts and a bucket of $$. Grundy I guess was a biggish name but a horrible horrible choice. With Goody and Lamb at the helm, I wouldn't be expecting much lol. Bit like dumb and dumber.

oh yeah, I forgot about Houston. You reckon we'll be in the market for another big name soon? I feel like we're ready to be in the market again.

Oscar Allen feels like the obvious name for us to go after but haven't heard us mentioned.

Already linked to Jackson, and I wouldn't call that completely shut down despite his recent media comments.

Small forwards are on our list apparently. Bit to play out but there's an initial list of targets so will be interesting to see if any get traction. Josh Rachele could be a name to watch IMO.

Im actually at the point where I don't care about us being linked to anyone because it just feels like a waste of resource
Get Allen, get Farrell, get Jackson none of it matters. The issue with our list isn't fixable by adding a player here and there it's 100% solely down to the way we play. They'll come in and just be average.

The same way that hawthorn turn every single trade into a good player is because of how they're coached.
