Honestly I think Opening Round takes a fair amount of wind out of the sails of it.
If it means we can **** it off then good

Does anyone know why the Suns Dons game is at 4pm on the Saturday?

I know the Suns think twilight works better for them, but leaving the Sat night free makes me think Fox Footy are gonna have a crack at launching a new show again as part of their super saturday.

The Afl have got opening round wrong.
Really needed to have both the Eagles and dockers playing and maybe playing the following week in sydney, brisbane or melbourne. It would cut down the travel of both W.A. teams and they would get a extra bye somewhere in rounds 5,6 or 7 as well as the mid season bye.
A missed opportunity to help solve a problem.
No one is putting the Eagles in a prime time spot next year. Freo could work if against Sydney or Brisbane as they would sell out regardless of their opponent. GWS and GC would need to be against big Vic clubs to ensure a good crowd

Herald Sun saying Bombers will be playing at Geelong & channel 7 saying Bulldogs hosting Pies round 2 Friday nighter.
Bring on Thursday 😴
Hawthorn v Carlton Round 2 Thursday night?

Which teams supposedly have an advantage?

Not sure how Brisbane were "advantaged" by starting earlier than everyone else and then having a "bye" in Rd2 after playing 2 games.

Much rather not be involved in R0 and just have regular continuity of the season compared to starting early and then have a week off after 2 games that just stuffs any momentum you are trying to build.
when you have 2 byes and play other teams that haven't had 1, surely there's an advantage there
when you play 1 game and then play another team that hasn't played 1, surely there is an advantage there

Opening round, gather round, just another way to jam the big clubs on TV and continually screw the smaller ones

It's getting harder and harder to ever see a fairer fixture for the non-anointed clubs

Official - round 2 - Western Bulldogs host Collingwood at the MCG on Friday night to celebrate 100 years in VFL/AFL.
so that Pies Sunday r0 on ch7
R1 Friday night Ch7
R2 Friday night ch7

even when they don't make finals still get absolutely gifted

Is you advantage claim that teams perform better off a bye because they are fresher? Effectively have what 12-14 days with no game v playing a team that has the regular week consistency.

Last year in Rd2, Pies were playing their 3rd game in 12 days up against the fresher Saints. Why is that disadvantage StK?

Then in Rd3 Pies travelled up to Brisbane to play the Lions coming off their bye...who was advantaged in that one? The fresher Lions?

In 2024 there were only 4 teams in Rd 1 who played a team who had played in Rd 0

Brisbane lost to Freo in WA
GWS beat North in Sydney
GC beat Adel in GC
Melb beat WB at the G

No real advantage, just the home team winning which is par for the course.

If playing Rd 0 provided an advantage why were Carlton not fighting to retain their slot?
