But what can the Foreign Minister of what is a regional power (at best) really do? On really sensitive foreign affairs issues, the minister takes their cues from the prime minister and cabinet. While I'm disgusted by the genocide committed by the Netanyahu government, nothing Australia says will make an iota of difference.

And there are no votes in the Middle East war or the antisemitism issue. No Sky News watcher who has antisemitism as their top priority was ever going to vote Labor. No Muslim Australian appalled at Israel's actions is going to vote for Peter 'Licking Israel's Arse' Dutton.
I think there's a big problem for Labor in seats like Werriwa which the ALP have held literally forever, held by a Party apparatchik who cares not about the electorate.

There's a lot more organisation happening around Muslim voters. Genocide will have that impact.

The Government could do the right thing. Supporting Israel just to suck up to the USA is proving to be a stupid idea. Time to move genuinely toward a 2-state solution and formally recognise Palestine as a state with 1967 borders. That might stop them leaking voters to the Libs. Sure the Libs are more supportive of Israel, but if somebody was already leaning away from the ALP, not calling out genocide might be enough to justify the switch to LNP preference.

It certainly hurt Kamala Harris. I'm not sure compulsory voting will save them.

It's just another front on which the Government shouldn't be having a fight to prevent doing the right thing

Surpluses
Tax cuts for all
Bill relief
Childcare
Bulk billing
Rent assistance
Cheaper medicine
Bringing the wholesale power rates DOWN!!

All whilst being attacked for fueling inflation!!!!!

But the BIGGEST achievement is keeping people in JOBS!!!!!

Are Australians this stupid and only care about their own situation.
Are we really the country of self interest?
Can we not see what challenges the government has had coming out of a pandemic? Or how the Ukraine war fuelled inflation?

Are we really that dumb we are going to punish a government that has done an exceptional job with the cards they have been dealt.
Unfortunately Australia is that dumb

political analysts and psephologists alike all point to seismic shifts in male attitudes and voting patterns (young males especially) ..... apparently, this cohort are attracted to conviction politics - even if that means getting shafted every way imaginable on the policy settings championed by their preferred candidate .... its the bro, he-man 'vibe'

 ....... i dont get it either ..... but boys will be boys soooooo - were screwed
It’s partly because as a society our means of gathering information have changed. In the past people might have sat down & read the broadsheet weekend editions where policy could be unpacked with nuance.

What’s the point in doing the long form press club interview with in depth discussion when no one’s going to listen to it much less read it?

Trump’s greatest breakthrough was realizing he could just go on Rogan, spew lies & racist anti woke vitriol for 2 hours and inject it straight into the veins of angry young people.

Dutton is just working the same strategy.

and they said we were entering the Information Age .......

We have access to all the information of the entirety of humanity at our fingertips, but way too many people lack the skills to critically assess the sources of that information, or simply outright shun the 'educated' as a reason to disbelieve anything they don't like.

There's also a lot of grifters out there who are very effective at creating a narrative that neatly explains things, irrespective of facts.

It's like amplified religion.

You want to know the truth about vaccines? Well it takes a long time to explain medical practices, procedures and peer-reviewed processes.

Or, here's an entertainment video about how these people all got vaccinated and some of them died.

People are watching the entertainment video rather than reading the dull factual reports and studies.

Then the answer is make the facts entertaining
I've recently done some reading on connecting with people - and data is not the way to do it unfortunately. You need to create a shared reality with story telling. I guess the data can come after you have primed/convinced them.

You can use the data. Just make it engaging. It's primary school level stuff.

I am also in Kingston.

Our most prominent independent is a freedom nutter who runs on a platform of having a good beard.

I’ve heard worse platforms for office. I’ll take mighty beard over Christian Karen.

Dutton showing he's got more spine than Albo - again.

Her whole political career can be summed up with:

"I really wanted to do good things, but nobody would let me, so I didn't do anything"
Damn man, this has gotta be the most short sighted view.

Just let them cook for a bit. The next three years are going to be hot and I don't want Dutton in charge

I'll drink to the campaigner's death but it will make **** all difference. A different billionaire campaigner or campaigners will own the news media he now controls.
3 of his 4 children set to take control are less conservative enough that Rupert has spent years trying to stop it happening. World's greatest dad.
