Think Laird training back with the defence.
Yes, Lairds loss of his 2 mtr pace, has seen him relegated to DEF .....you can't be small AND slow these days

Might be a handy DPP if he plays back for long enough and averages 105+

In games where Rankine received at least 40% cba’s he averaged 110 last season. If he looks like boosting his midfield minutes then he’s a no brainer. Plus he’s pretty enjoyable to watch. Surely the crows phase crouch and laird out this year.
He will get those mid minutes but may be it’s a cba then drifting forward but that was happening last year too.

He’s referred to this in an interview already and we need his spark/creativity in there

Our mid mix will be one to watch especially with versatility offered by rankine/dawson who are in that best mix but I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a mainstay

I believe Laird is training with the defenders, Rank will split 50/50, and you’d think Draper will roll in off a HFF to begin with. Low-key excited about Draper.

Crouch can’t really play anywhere else (67% CBA’s) Dawson is their Rolls Royce and generally will only move out of the guts if he’s getting a hard tag or resting (59% CBA’s over the 2024 season 🤔) and Soligo was at 56%.

Izak was at 38%.

Sam Berry also got a look in with 235 CBA’s over his 18? games.

Then there’s Rachele.
Expect berry to fall back in pecking order. Peatling pretty well slots in to his spot there

Laird won’t be a feature at CBAs. Will play def unless something’s gone wrong

Main guys will be:

Dawson
Rankine
Peatling
Crouch
Soligo

Rach may get some occasional spurts (Interesting some reports of him training with mids but can’t see it being more than pinch hitting)

Then Taylor, Berry if/when they get games will go in that rotation but they’re behind the others.

Draper I don’t expect a lot of CBAs, maybe later in season but more likely could get involved in that Rankine CBA pushing forward handover as a way of getting him involved up the ground.

Curtin similar, prob gets a few as he develops but won’t sig impact the above

Love the Bolton pick he will be at least a Top 10 Forward this year.
I'm starting to get excited by him, although I do worry about his role, and I think he could still go missing every now and then.

But his floor and ceiling should be higher in a better side. Freo have superstar ball-winners around him, so he'll get plenty of opportunities. He's the perfect age, and he's back home.

I got a feeling he's going to drop a 150 in a preseason match and be in 50%+ of sides.

What are we expecting from Shai this year?

Averaged 96 in 2023, and a bunch of mid 80s when he was playing in the best team. Finding him really hard to gauge, especially when Freo have plenty of quality mids in front of him.

He will be a top 10 forward but huge variance in scores like 2023

Brayshaw Serong Young will get the bulk of the mid minutes then he is probably in line with Fyfe/JOM for older ones and Johnson/Erasmus for the younger types

Just checked the fixture as well not the best for starting Geelong in Geelong and Sydney in Perth if he is flying after those best to jump on when his price rises against WC R3

This is partly correct. These are the CBA's for Freo the last couple of years.

So it looks like Serong,Brayshaw & Young are the main men. Last year Fyfe got O'meara's Cba's and I think this year Bolton will get Fyfe's Cba's. The last few years Bolton was just over 50% and I think that will be the case at Freo.

Assuming Fyfe plays he will get CBA's, he's useless anywhere else. Surely Bolton just replaces Walters?

I think both Walters & Fyfe are shot probably their last seasons and I doubt they get many games.

I don't think he's ever been a top 10 forward. Dud pick, stuck in a mostly forward role at a club with a stacked midfield. Will be top 10-20

Where is the stacked Midfield?

Fyfe is a dual Brownlow Medallist, dual Leigh Matthews Trophy recipient, three-time All-Australian (including as captain in the 2019 team) and three-time Doig Medallist.
I don’t think he is debating how good he was, we all know he was a gun. Just stating that right now, he isn’t what he use to be, useless might have been a little heavy handed.

Agree, but he is close to useless outside the centre square (now).
