I think we can be 8-4 or even 9-3 with the current side and a couple we get back within a month.

Shouldn't have dropped either game so far, they were there for the taking, but we have coming up...

Freo
North
Pies
Port
Suns
GWS
Bombers
Blues
Dees
Crows

Freo were awful, we do well over there.

Pies will be in Adelaide, so no home comfort for them.

GWS probably the biggest threat but we went 3-0 last year.

Blues might get their act together.
Might look at the fixture

The likelihood is that a SEVERELY weakened Bloods outfit will succumb away to Freo (notwithstanding their horror show last week) and be 0-3.

Are you seriously suggesting that we will go 8-1 or 9-0 after the bye? That is highly optimistic, bordering on irrationally parochial. We have a new head coach, we appear to have re-jigged the game plan which will take time to adapt to, with two key forwards missing and our best tall defender of the last 3 years now playing in the forward line. All this with a bunch of our nominally best 23 in the rehab room.

Sorry, but I'm just not buying what you're selling. Would love to be proven wrong though.

Not really the thread, but I don't know how you come to the conclusion we're becoming more contested when we're down on contested possessions, tackles, clearances and contested marks versus 2024. Small sample size so far but this seems wishful thinking.

Seems like a new topic for you though.
9-3 after 12 rounds ? The King of Wishful Thinking.

Firstly, I said "we can be" not "we will be". I'm not selling anything. I'll just ignore the irrational comment based on your misreading.

Secondly, this is in the context of you saying that with our injuries you would take 6-6 without hesitation. I am pointing out that this could undersell us.

Thirdly, I gave 2 reasons to be optimistic versus Freo. While we shouldn't have dropped the last 2, largely the same side will be playing (with Melican the only in-form loss and may be offset somewhat by a KPF addition). So I don't prescribe to your gloomy outlook.

Fourth, no I don't think we would go 9-0 after the bye. It's your assumption we'll lose to Freo.

Lastly, with some players back and based on what we do most years, is that we can go on a run of wins/good form after it seems unlikely. To say we definitely can't and accept mediocrity is to deny what we have done again and again. Based on who we've played and who we have to play by the 12 match mark, I don't think I'd be accepting 6-6 and stand by my comments on where we can be.

So no response, and a selective misread.
Ok. I think the newbies in our team are showing fantastic contested footy potential. Hanily, Wicks 2.0, maybe Bice, Gus. Cleary most likely when back in. They are under clear instruction in game style from the coach. They hunt, they have second efforts they tackle they try.

So I do think we are in transition. The older hands esp JMac, O Flo, Paps and Hayward will have to adapt as well.

Sure, our stats may be down but our intent is not. We made Brisbane earn it. I believe contested footy is the way forward to a flag. Look at last week v the grand final, huge difference.

Strong tacklers are our future.

A great salesman

I didn't misread anything. And in the context of the situation, I think your "can be not will be" argument is plain semantics. Yes of course we "could be" 9-3, schoolboy mathematics would suggest that is a possibility. I prefer to deal with reality. And the current reality is that we are zip and two, with an away trip to Freo where, as you correctly point out, we have done well there in the past few years. But the difference now is that we are decimated. And they will be fired up after the Geelong debacle.

Again, I would be very happy to be wrong. The reason I would sign up for a 6-6 start now is that after the second bye we will likely be close or "closer" to full strength, where we could realistically make a charge for a spot somewhere between 4th and 8th, depending on other results.

Let's see how it plays out.

Suggest you check a dictionary.

I also like reality. Reality is we shouldn't have dropped the 2 games, but we have been competitive against 2 sides that are better than all but maybe 1 of the sides we face through til the 12 match mark, and I understand the reality of what this team has shown it can do.

We'll get a few players back around or shortly after the bye, and I certainly wouldn't be looking at the games before or just after it as ones we should concede yet.

I don't see the relevance of this to the topic but whatever.

I don't dispute most of this. I think Hawthorn were clearly better. Brisbane can consider themselves a tad fortunate. But here we are at 0-2.

There is no doubt that the Freo game is pivotal here, and if we do manage to pull off the win, then your scenario or prognosis becomes a bigger possibility, maybe even a probability.

But if we go 0-3, it becomes extremely difficult to get to 8-4 or 9-3 notwithstanding the quality of opponents or lack thereof. We saw Richmond mow down the Blues so I would be very cautious making assumptions about the quality of these sides after round 1.

Brisbane started 2024 at 0-3, and by Rd 11, they were still only 4-6-1 draw

By round 24, they ended up finishing 14-8-1

By Rd 6/7, we could have several players back from injury, such as Millsy, Logan, Harry, and Pel available, and others pushing for selection

Adams also looked to be training well in the short clip McKirdy posted yesterday

Too much doom and gloom on here , even former coaches , Bucks and Simmo said we are ok and it will turn around , too many on here think we have to be like last year

100% we were literally right there with Brisbane and a singular mistake/bounce goes our way and we win that game. Gotta time your run to be in tip top shape for finals

One name that is absent is Will Edwards. Is he good to go now? Did he play ressies last weekend. Will be interesting to see if he's named to play the Pies at 5 pm today.
Pretty sure he was a test to play in the VFL against Collingwood in the last update on the 11th which must mean he is back (maybe on limited minutes {for a KPP that is}) still good that players are slowly trickling back

Test last week for practice match vs GWS, not in injury report this week.

Maybe he played last week vs GWS, but there's absolutely no way for the club to let us know basic details like that.
