Honestly I feel as North fans we have become a little too obsessed with next years drafts. We have had as good a reason as any fans to and it brings hope, joy and a light at the end of the long dark miserable tunnel we have been stuck in. Appreciate completely our fans knowledge and expertise of the next draft class, don't stop. It's a never ending fun part of being invested in your club. However my goodness, I am so freakin happy that next year we will no longer be looking at the top end of the draft like starved animals. Our list is a top end draft. We can go into every game next year simply wanting, demanding, to win. I never want to think about tanking for Jimmy Smith the once in a generation player again. Our salary cap would not even fit another one ;)

Good post Mogroos, I agree, but with two years picks being able to be traded next year , if there is a player we like then who knows, more likely we use it to trade in a very good player, its a watch this space but I'm pretty sure we will worry about that at the end of next year, we are going all out for Wins this year and we have the team to do it.

Especially with so many players at the top end who are tied to clubs this year

They may be but contacts are not really set in stone. We are moving to the end of the build it and they will come stage. So a gun key forward is getting close to 30 with maybe a couple finals wins and is looking at his midfield thinking these guys are just average. The Shez rocks up at his locale cafe and tells him Mckerch, FOS, LDU, Wards and the shez himself will be serving him a full breakfast on a platter for the next five years. He becomes the next great legendary forward he always wanted to be, his manager starts buying properties on the gold coast and maybe Byron next the the Hemsworth's and North are a dynasty.

All the fanfare on talls for this year seems to be focused on Archie Ludowyke, Louis Emmett and Cooper Duff-Tytler.

Duff-Tytler for me looks every bit a top 3 pick with his movement, rucking ability and around the ground marking. Still very raw, so there is a tonne of upside there.

One tall who I think will be top 10 come the end of the season will be Aidan Schubert from SA. He has fantastic leading patterns, really strong mark and has a bit of mongrel in his game. He is still slight in frame, but there is a bit of Jarrad Waite in his long loping running style and jumping ability/timing.

Cody Curtin (brother of Adelaide Daniel) also looks a top prospect. Has his brother's skill and composure, but also has a more physical side of his game. A real competitor across CHB but can also swing forward as you'll see in one of the vids below.

Schubert seems an unfinished prospect.

There are two types of North supporters, the ones who can't wait for the draft and the ones who can't wait for the AFLW

Tend to agree. I'll still follow the draft as I quite enjoy it, but part of me doesn't mind us having the ability to target more for needs with two R2's as well as futures when it comes to the 2025 trade and draft period.
We don't really need the mids or ruck/fwd types with Goady, so only if a good key forward (Ludowyke) or gun small forward rises up the boards will the draft get a bit interesting. We can always try and trade up or into R1 if we want.

But given the last two years there's usually some talls in the 20-40 range and perhaps a small forward.
We might not immediately need certain things if players come on in our squad that we don't expect.
I'm intrigued as to what impact the 2026 draft class with Harris and McCartney bids may have on what we do.
I don't think the trade and draft period will be less enjoyable for these reasons, still some uncertainty there.
