Training 2025 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

It is one sunny Saturday morning where the grass is still a bit dewy and wet and the trainers are in a hurry to dry the grass a bit (I am just assuming that is what they're doing as 2 people are pulling a rope like item along the grass).

It is Wardy's first training session this year, he told me he was sick and it's obvious as he's coughing a bit during training.

Separated from the main group are Wardy, Lewis, Blancky, Frosty, Mraz, Ginni, Wiz and Barras.

The main group looks like they are doing the usual stuff they are doing during a normal weekday main training.
Initially they do stretching, some kicking and run around for a lap or two to begin the session.

They are then separated into 3 groups where one group in particular focuses on quick handball in tight spaces (which I got some vids), the other group focuses on some agility kind of tasks, the last group focuses on group strength where they pull a heavy item. Then later they switch around the groups.

Later they are separated in 2 groups where they do the usual end to end kicking (from one goal end to the other).

In further sessions they are divided into groups again where some are focused on leading and marking,
some are doing match sims like 5 vs 3, 7 vs 5, 3 vs 3 etc.

In some of the sessions, I have noticed McCabe to be still quick and agile for his height.

Massa is still one of the last few players that left the oval (similar to what I've observed last season).

Near the end of the training, I have spoken to a few of our players.

I learned that Frosty, Blancky and Lewis are very near in joining the main group in the training.
They also mentioned that they will be in a camp (Torquay) in late Jan.

I have congratulated Frosty on his new baby and he mentioned that he got good sleeps and he expects more exciting times ahead.

Nick Watson said he’s just managing his load, nothing serious.

I have cheekily asked Weddle on why he lost to Amon in the time trials :) .
He said it's alright as he's taller and bigger and he got a different program.
He also added that he's faster this year compared to last year (I did not ask how he measured it), it is just that the other players are faster than him this year .... which he says is a good thing, more competition.

Sic in high spirits this morning.

Finn urged me to join the picture, but I told him I heard that 2 of you(Finn and Scrima) are arguably the 2 most handsome blokes in the team from what I heard in the social media (and they laughed).
Finn added, thats why you should join us 🙂 .

FYI I know many are talking about LDU but don’t be at all surprised to see pictures of Sam in a Perth cafe at some point later in the season chatting to Oscar Allen.
Oscar is a Sorrento Duncraig boy.
I know times are changing but not many WA boys leave Perth.

He would have a connection to Hickmott though, as well as Sam.
Hick was coaching his boys in Year 10 at SDJFC while Allen was playing Yr 11’s there

I certainly would be happy if we picked him up but I won’t hold my breathe

Yep, I’m not saying Oscar is interested, I’m saying Hawthorn is. Will be an interesting watch to see how West Coast approach it. I doubt Oscar leaves, but he just missed the ‘18 flag and another one is his time at West Coast looks unlikely. Will depend on his motivation but yes, he’s a WA boy through and through and loves the club.
