Has Neale been awarded official Training The House Down accreditation?
Absolutely!

The award will be presented at the season launch function in 2025.

A very timely question Gavin, we’re seeking a former club champion to present the award. Are you available?

Hoping your jaw is fully healed now, as you’ll be required to say a few words.

PS. Wonder, if Exell had played in 1989 GF, would the result have changed?

Smith* looks great, very agile + fit.

Neale is just a beast! Appears more agile.

Looks stinking hot 🥵

Was Cuthrie training, unable to find him 🤞🏻

A few of the younger guys appear to have added bulk. Mentioned previously.

Closehy looks amazing 😻

There’s a young guy, looks a little like Nathan Ablett. Anyone know his name, please?

*Dangerfield interview, for those who missed it:
"I think he's that inside midfielder and has the ability to break the lines," Dangerfield said to reporters.

"He averages a lot of inside-50s, and I think that will really benefit the group we've got in and around the ball, so that's where I'd see him playing.”

Yes at 30 secs in, C Guthrie is running in the background with Z Guthrie.

I'm not worries about whether jhye has put on size I want to know if his time trials are running PBs.
You made me want to go check some Jhye Clark game footage. I picked the Collingwood game and you can kind of see it there as an example.

First quarter early he's getting involved with some pinpoint kicking and good decision making, he's finding space while he's fresh. Then he disappears in the second, his only involvement a dropped mark and hacked kick as the game is moving faster than he can. Likely he's been benched a from here and for most of the 3rd. 4th quarter, he's still a bit fumbly but the game has slowed to his speed and getting more involved.

I dunno if that's exactly what I'm seeing but it looks like it to me

One of the Melbourne supporters watched the team train on Monday.
Had some interesting things to say about Clayton Oliver:

"Oliver had a crack but he was one of the worst performers and plain and simply, he’s fat. He needs to lose 7 or 8kg and I find it hard to see how he can play Round 1 without being a massive defensive liability. I feel like it’s a big opportunity for the club to set some standards and not play him until he is right. But highly unlikely he won’t be named round 1 considering how good he is"

Already a red flag if true.
Very happy the club did not trade for this bloke.

A) bullet dodged

B) Did Dan have a friend post that for him because he's banned? Lol

I'm starting to think there's some credence to the rumours of the medication he's allegedly on.

By all reports, he actually is trying, and has been training to his previous elite standard for some time now.

If all that is true, and it's been reported by multiple sources that it is, and he still can't shed the kilos then it's a pretty sad story IMO. It's a regular occurrence with SSRI medication.

Would be pretty tough trying your hardest for months on end, and people still thinking you're taking the piss because of something that's out of your control.

Wish Clarry nothing but the best, but it does look like a bullet dodged so far from a GFC POV.

My bro went through depression for a period of time.
He was fit as hell then right before it came out about what was happening with him he dropped a heap of weight that my now taller 2 year older brother weighed less than I did (never happened before or since)

Getting on anti-depressants made him pack on weight.
He’s doing fantastic now with the birth of his third child and is at normal weight again and being fit again but weirdly he said the exact same thing.

He told me when all the Clarry rumours were going that he recognised SSRI weight gain and that people hammering on him for being “fat” didn’t understand.
Makes a tonne of sense.

There hasn't been much talk of O'Sullivan. Pick 11ish.

Dropped in to Deakin for a quick sqizz this morning. ....he looks ready. Bigger body. Looks at least 198 cm.

Still confident on the track and what I needed a reminder about. He kicks well on both feet.

He is ready.
Man if he can come on somewhat quickly and SFK gets back to confident and quality football, we suddenly look so good tall down back.

Had an enormous wrap on Ollie Dempsey before he had his breakout year this year, 2024 and I'm just as keen on Connor O'Sullivan, I just love this kid (same as Toby Conway) as he's got everything it takes to be a top-class footballer and barring injury he'll at some stage be a permanent member of our 2025 side...... so I did love reading your comment catswhiskers:

He's going to be a very good player, but he's far from ready. Still needs to add a lot of size to be a KPD at AFL level.

The club typically gives it's promising talls (SDK, Neale) a three-year apprenticeship in the twos before they get a decent run in the seniors.

He's AFL ready NOW, perhaps not KPD but he will be a permanent member of side at some stage 2025. This kid is just too good a footballer not to be in our senior side, even NOW!

SDK didn't have a 3 year apprenticeship:
  • drafted in 2019
  • 2020 was a write-off due to covid
  • played 6 VFL games in 2021 before the season was abandoned, and also made his senior debut
  • 2022 he was straight in the deep end, slotting into the seniors from round 1

Sam barely had a 2 year apprenticeship due to how interrupted his first two years were

I don't think we necessarily have a "typical" approach to the development of talls, instead each player goes through their own journey to the senior team

Great news. Even if that means a little taster in 2025 (like Dempsey 2023) and then ready for break out 2026 which is third year like SDK (and Dempsey)… we will all be very happy campers!

Yesterdays price is not today's price.

Another much appreciated fact check. Quite a few things would slip through on here without your diligence.

He did have 3 years in the gym though

Yesterdays price is not today's price.

I reckon he puts in a subpar year of footy and I'm not even sure Geelong would be interested if he was available for almost nothing. Going on 28, 29 years of age and is now past his use by date in a similar way Jack Steven was for us.

Too many footballers today are ultra-professionals when they enter the AFL and are fanatical with their bodies.
Oliver's been into the drugs and the party life for a few years and it's all caught up to him fairly quickly.
