As an Aberfeldie boy I'd like to say McBean > Balta (Doutta Stars) but I won't

Doutta Stars had a great jumper. (think Ivan in the final scenes of The harder they come).
Douttas were tough as back in the late 70s early 80s

Forward line is interesting.

I mentioned wing before but I guess if he played a half forward role he could be quite the matchup problem.

On the flank he could exploit his speed and athleticism especially coming in from the side like Richo. He could also quickly run up the ground to make a contest to and that would including chipping in for ruck duties to give the rucks a reprieve as well.

I like the idea of Balta running forward were he can kick 70 metres or so so at half forward he would have more opportunity to exploit this than a deep forward positioning.

I like the iceman Townsend in deep because he is so mentally strong quicking for goal in terms of keeping things simple as well as defensive pressure and agility and I think JR is a bit more of a menace from deep even if he has a license to roam around were they can provide the aerial support for the smaller forwards.

If Balta played a half forward flanks the likes of a Caddy could play CHF opening the corridor up with JR and Townsend deeper among the small forward/mid fleet to balance out the ground level/aerial contest play. A bigger tall like CCJ, Miller or Griffiths could also slot in deeper to if required or as a change up which would add a bit of flexibility to the dynamic.

If he runs up the lines, competes and wins a quick turnaround could really open up the ground with his speed and long kicking meaning if not a goal our small forwards can run onto the oncoming ball to make the most of any quick longer entries into relatively space apart from the likes of JR and Townsend aerially. The other thing is from a quick long entry in Balta being further up the ground helps the defensive set-up as he is positioned well defensively and aerially at least after a long kick on one side if the ball happened to be turned over in the forward line which is less of an issue than the backline as our defence can look to repel the new oncoming opposition movement. The fact Balta can chip in for ruck helps Nankervis and other rucks more energy meaning less rotations needed for them meaning more rotations permitable for our midfielders giving them a greater energy impact when they are on to.

I say flank because congestion in the corridor would not interfere with his athleticism and speed and he could get more long kicks off which would be more damaging. The other thing is if he is near the bench and he needs to be rotated off thats less wasted energy for him and the player coming on to replace him with minimal game impact.

Its even more effective if one thinks of a rampaging Balta on a flank, opposition defenders running back big time chasing a 70 metre penetrating kick and he slips it up short to a running Lambert or whoever inside 50 metres. Very hard to stop for opposition defenders even if they know what is coming when the scope of options is so broad.

Danny Greenwood , Played at Douttas and East Keilor.. tough as they come.

Bob Clare or Danny Jessen from Doutta probably deserve a mention

I've quoted the above from a thread on tough footballers in the EDFL in the 70s/80s.

Lucky I was on good terms with Bob Clare's kid brother. We did have the local police attending all Broadmeadows U15, U17 games. They didn't last too long. The worst thing I saw was an all in brawl vs Glenroy in U15s after we whipped their asses on their home ground.
