No secret this guy is a favourite and I rate him highly. And it's preseason yada yada.

But.. it caught the eye that Tim English was able to shove him around a few times. Just a little mental note on that one.
English has done that for a few years to Goldy. Once upon a time it was the other way around.

Interesting looking back at this comment KC. Hadn’t heard any whispers here had you?

This omission was one NOBODY saw coming. One day he’s our best ruck by a mile and receiving life membership, and the next he’s dropped to the VFL. Personally don’t agree with match committee’s decision on this one.

Nah no inside word Jase. I was also surprised at his omission.

Funny you quoted that comment though, I had forgotten saying it but saw it last night again coincidentally.

Maybe was something to it. I didn't think Xerri showed all that much over preseason but for Tim English (who isn't exactly Jonah Lomu himself) to shift Goldie around a bit was curious. Just a mental bookmark as mentioned.

Fwiw I'd play Goldstein in Round 1 for both experience and ability but it is what it is.

You could be onto something there.

Maybe Clarko wants to find out if X is up to it. It's probably Goldy's last season. If X isn't up to it, a competent ruckman will be on the shopping list.

Well I was having a chat just this day before. And ol Goldy struggles to get up for pre-season games, so I'd suggest his form and the need to find out whether Xerri has it is the reason.

Am sure Goldy will play his fair share of games in this season of 2023.

37 degrees tomorrow. Goldy probably happy to sit in the air con.

Its not that surprising. He was poor agaist the Bulldags.

He was uncompetitive against a not particularly imposing opposition ruck in hot and humid conditions. I think he even got beaten for strength by the teenager Darcy. X on the other hand cracked in and contested well. The conditions and circumstances with the opposition will be similar tomorrow so the change makes sense. I imagine under different conditions and opposition in coming weeks, we will adjust our tactics and selections to suit.

Goldy missing out this week I get, and support, but the idea of him playing in the VFL feels so weird.
Maybe he does need a bit of a hit-out after all. He didn't get a run against Richmond but he was at the ground signing autographs. Perhaps he's carrying a niggle or isn't quite prepared in terms of match fitness just yet?

Rationale used here is borderline disrespectful.

''He knows he needs to perform well to give himself a chance to come back into the side''

That's ****en crazy.....in what universe has any of X's games come close to what Goldstein does for the team!?!?!?!?!?

This sucks....not only is Goldy close to playing 300 games but he’s loyal as shit. We all know over the years his had offers from other clubs and he could have left for more money and play in a better teams.....he stayed.

Goldy is the best ruck I have seen at North.

He edges out McKernan due to longevity. McKernan 95-2000 was very good 96 being the stand out obviously

Goldy (apart from 2017, yuck) has been one of the premier ruckman in the comp from 2012-2022

Corey played a huge role in us winning 2 premierships. For mine, that gets him across the line - much though I admire Goldy.

Clarko, welcome, come on in. We want you to know that you have carte blanche to do whatever's necessary with every aspect of the club to return us to premiership contention. Except team selection. You can't touch our favourites.

Not favourites.

Eagles don’t have Nic Nat playing….we have a legitimate chance to win a Round 1 game for a change and instead we’re playing our 2nd/3rd best ruckman.

How many years in a row have we had rigorous conversation about goldys spot in the side in the first 5 rounds?

Easily the last 3.

It takes him a while to get going and clarkos seen this first hand.

This isn’t a matter of clarko not respecting him- let’s not forget he was getting Jordan Lewis to KO him a while back because he was so dominant.

Goldy just isn’t as great as he used to be.

So if NicNat was playing, this selection would be okay? I don't understand why we would only play Goldy against rookies and hacks. Seems arse backwards.
