"Everyone at North Melbourne is hoping for him to request a trade."

I heard this and thought Sydney may have told Ben they will not bid through Free Agency.
If he wants $800k, he'll have to ask North to work out a trade with Sydney.

What happens if Ben says, I want to go to Sydney, but Sydney never make a Free Agency bid because they know doing so would land North Pick 3.

Why on earth would Sydney do this ? Makes no sense from them. Won’t happen.

Sydney don't want to hand Pick 3 to North.
They know this will happen if they offer $800,000.
If they offered, say $650,000 - North might match it.

If McKay forces a trade, Sydney get their man without giving North Pick 3, and McKay gets his $800k.
If a trade can't be made, there was no bid, so McKay wouldn't have to accept a contract from North.

He'd probably have to sit the year out (maybe half a year), then nominate for the mid-season or next years draft with an $800,000 price tag.

It forces North to trade at fair value, or risk losing him for nothing.

Sydney DO NOT have to hand pick 3 to us
and McKay would not sit a year out lol

Sydney will take him as a free agent as they do not have to use any draft or trade capital!

I don't understand why this is so difficult for people to understand. Good list managers act in the best interests of their club, not to **** over other clubs.

I hope so, Sydney aren't the team to just give another Pick 3

It’s not their pick to give. Their only outlay is salary. If they force a trade they’ll need to give us their first rounder. I’m sure they’d rather keep it and move back a spot than lose it altogether.

If he nominated for the mid season draft surely another clubs could select him before Sydneys pick?

l cant see Ben wishing to sit out a year without pay or even half a year.

What he would lose in payments may be close the difference he would have gotten from Sydney and he would have still been able to play...

Very strange take on the situation. Since when has Sydney been in charge of deciding picks?

This makes no sense at all.
Sydney aren't giving up their pick 3.

Would they rather get Mckay for nothing, or give up one of their own draft picks?

I don't think moving back from 11 to 12 in the draft is really going to move the needle for Sydney, as with any of the teams bidding for him.

While still hoping that Ben stays, one matter that just might be front and centre in the minds of our list management people, is that in a couple of years time, if our fortunes start to turn upwards, on the back of our last few years drafting, we are going to be faced with some salary cap headaches trying to fit in some of these boys. We may have plenty of cap space now, but things can change quickly.
