Was talking to my old man about him last night, and we agreed how big he has been for the club's culture. In a miserable environment for so long, he has brought lots of positivity and profile for the club, while also playing 70-80 very good games of football for us. Not to mention his influence on up and coming midfielders, I would be happy to bet that he has helped Harmes develop his tagging game for example.

Going into this year, he was happy to accept playing games in Casey if not selected, yet he has earned selection in all bar a couple of games and IMO is arguably in our best 22. I would therefore be happy to again offer him another year, on reduced coin, and if he plays 5 games next year rather than 15 but is still a good influence on the group then that's not a problem. And if he proves everybody wrong again and remains in the team, even better, and it's a shootout between him and Jordy for a list spot in 2020. (And yes, I realise it's highly unlikely he goes around in 2020, but stranger things have happened)

He's a champion

I love the hits he was consistently dolling out earlier on in the season and although he's only getting 10-15 touches a game these days, you can see he's really thinking about every touch now - instead of just gaining territory.

Some of my favourite memories have been from 2-3 years ago when the whole MCG starts getting anxious because we've done about 15 confusing handballs in a row that has gotten us precisely nowhere, then the ball lands in Bernie's hands and he senses the occasion and just hoofs it 65metres.

His short precise kicks under pressure through the opposition's zone this year has actually been really good and I wouldn't be against giving him another year, even just to plonk him on the HFF and let him kick inside 50/tackle/thump defenders

I hope that wasnt his last game for the club.

For what he has helped build over the last 5 years he definitely deserved a better finish

Definitely deserved to be there if we make finals. Shattered for the bloke!
Yep. He came when we were Fitzroyesk and helped build this club up.

If he finishes up with his last game getting injured at Casey, while the club potentially plays final it would be a travesty

Deserves to go around in the car and a standing ovation from the members.

It's bad luck and bad timing, but I don't think Vince should be getting another year out of sentimentality. If we can't do better at the draft or in the trade period, then possibly rookie as a break glass in case of emergency situation, but we need to get a bit more pace into the side.

A great servant who came when we were at our lowest and helped build us into a competitive side again.

Think his time is up though. Would have said the same before this injury. Played a few decent games this year but is slow and turns it over too much.
