Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987

Gutted that it's finished this way for him.

Glorious career , I guess unless you finish after a premiership kind of always a bit sucky , even the Jack Grundy Mcveigh day we didn't make finals etc

Shame he doesn't have a swans premiership medal more than finishing injured :(

I cannot remember any other player whose imagination, audacity and unfailing ability to miraculously execute made me gasp and laugh.

I also love the stories about him being a footy nuffie. Following kids in junior comps and pestering Beatson re the draft.

What a legacy he has left!

Devastated that this is the end. Deserved a send off match
Congratulations to him on a great career, for both Hawthorn and Swans. As a supporter of both sydney sides, I enjoyed his 9 goals vs St Kilda in 2014 , was hoping to catch the ball for his 1000th in round 1 last year, but not to be.

Shame the way it's happened but he's gone far longer than most players. Up there with Goodes as the two best Swans I have seen.
Real shame we couldn't get another premiership for him.

The one thing that has struck me about Buddy is how humble he is. A private man, who just let his footy do the talking.

Thanks for the memories.
Its quire bizarre. On the footy field he strutted around, played with supreme confidence, played up to the crowd yet off field he is probably one of the most private superstars we have ever seen

Lance "Buddy" Franklin to retire. Congratulations to Lance Franklin on an outstanding career, so many brilliant achievements all done so whilst Essendon never won a final.
354 games
8 All Australian
4 Coleman Medals
2 AFL Premierships
2 Goal of the Year
