Past #23: Kieran Harper - delisted by the club (29/10) - will miss '16 VAFA season, surgery on ankle

I rather had Harper than Jacob.
Who knows, Harper could be the next Greenback.
We clearly get bent over by the dog :(

Rubbish.

Levi killed it in the VFL.

Killed it.

Midway through the year I thought perhaps Harps would have a rise like Levi in 2015, he just never put it on the park anywhere near something like consistently.

Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but isn't there a chance Cooney may stay at the dogs and therefore Harps won't be traded either?
Very much so, Harper did, however, do a medical at the Dogs, leading to speculation about Harper. It is only a strong worded rumour at this stage.

I am so pissed to hear this rumor. I rate Harps very highly, sure he has been injury prone but so is freaking Cooney. If Harps gets his body right he is a 200 game pacy HF/Mid with x factor. Cooney is past his best maybe we get 50 games out of him but he is no major upgrade in out best 22. Better than Jacobs and Basti sure but a fit Harper is better still.

Getting so annoyed at Norths trade strategy. I understand Waite and Higgins but to then go after Varcoe/Lumumba, lose Levi, maybe Harper and give up a draft pick for Cooney! WTF is going on down there!

Is facebook down?

Can't believe people are against this.

We are trading a fringe VFL player for a former Brownlow medallist... AND the dogs are essentially paying his salary.

There are several recent examples of disenchanted players changing clubs and quickly returning to their prior form:

Brian Lake, Bernie Vince, Nick Dal Santo

Cooney is especially likely to be further motivated by playing in a stronger side with his mate Higgins.

As long as he passed his medical, which apparently he did, what's not to like?

Cooney is playing plenty of good senior football with his injury-prone body. Harper hasn't played any for two years with his. It's a shame from where Harps started, but there is no comparing their current output.

Harps is a Young footballer with injury problems and has struggled to get thorugh a pre-season. If he get over those problems he will be a gun. Just my opinion dont shoot me. MAYBE Cooney for Harper is viable but to give up a draft pick as well? How does that work?

Be careful though he played no small role in shafting our coach.
No offense meant to the dogs, but I seriously couldn't see that happening at North.

The big thing that has come out of Brad Scott's tenure is how the large majority of the playing group love having him as a coach (I say majority as you can never please everyone).

It's an oft repeated line in interviews when a player is asked about the coach, they always have praise for his approachability, style and how he will stick up for his players regarding anything and everything.

Cooney would have to be an absolute miracle worker to come to a new club, get enough people on side and then turn them against the coach (or coaches) to get them given the axe.

I know and I am not suggesting he would undermine the Brad
But he does need an attitude and work adjustment
With the promise of finals he might find that much easier

Can still tear up a game
As for his value - hard to say -

My analogy is - If NM was a real estate agent would we have one of our best potential Sales Reps at the front desk as a receptionist?

Because that's what's happening with KH, he's got great potential but we're paying him a shitload to sit in the VFL or rehab group..

I didn't realise our players paypackets were public knowledge, just out of interest, is Harps getting a shitload more than McMahon for example ?

its pretend money.

It really is.

are we front loading?

who are we front loading?

how balanced is our cap spend?

its rubbish people guess.

Id rather Cooney. Id thought north fans would be happy. They need to load up for a tilt at the premiership and you guys are a big chance next year , Harper hasn't played in 2 bloody years

Loyalty is a two way street, would have thought a Brisbane supporter would be more aware of that then most.

I don't have a problem with bringing in the odd free agents but when you push out a talented kid for someone who might have only one year left in him it leaves a very bitter taste in your mouth. We invest a lot emotionally with our players, opposition players mean next to nothing to us.

If players are just going to come and go like a turnstile then there really isn't anything to get emotionally attached to. You can say oh look, there is a talented recruit, I wonder which club he will playing for in 2 years time.

I don't really like where football is heading.

But if they didn't get Higgins they could of offered him more
We upped our offer enough.
Cooney is still a gun - if you can get his head right - he is not committed

He has been coasting with us and still managed 3 bogs

If we were A top 4 team you would never give him up because in the close games he is the cream you need to win

Be careful though he played no small role in shafting our coach.
I agree, Cooney has plenty to offer. Would rather Harper stayed though.

Cooney would help more bringing a flag to arden st next year than Harper would. Afl is getting harder to win each year so kangas have to throw all their eggs in the basket. Although It is sad to see football is getting like this

Not fussed. Garner and Turner have gone past him.

Garner? He has played 2 games and one was forgettable, has been injured ever since the last game he played.

I hope he does come good but suggesting he has gone past Harper, on what evidence do you make that call?

Could be that all players needed a medical and the NM doc is away, and Footscray is just down the road...?
Had a lot of time for Harper and saw him at Eastern Ranges tear it up there. When he comes good, could be anything.I always thought he would be competing with Atley as to who is the more valuable, but Atley has gone way ahead.

I'm not against it...but I don't like the idea of our 36 and Cooney. I do however like Cooney and 26/27 for harper and 36.

I had really hoped Harper turned his career around with us. Real shame.

I wouldn't say killed it. Last year he had two 30 disposal game but averaged 20 disposals for the 12 games at 12.6 effective disposals per game average. Averaged about 6 tackles which was good and kicked 5 goals, it is not in killing it territory. Inside mids often dominate at VFL level, outside don't unless they can get a lot of their own ball.

Half forward is probably a hard position to excel at.
