I suppose if you disregard the 'injury prone' aspect of the Waite, Higgins, Cooney recruits then it clearly says we want a list that has quality depth now, and that the kids we're keeping are only the ones we have confidence will make it (versus being prepared to wait/develop too long). It does put a lot of pressure on our drafting from now on though, it seems to me. We need quality kids coming in to fill the void that will be there in 2-3 years.

My analogy of this scenario is like trading in a current model Porsche with 4 flat tyres, for a beat up old FJ with 300,000kms on the clock
My analogy is - If NM was a real estate agent would we have one of our best potential Sales Reps at the front desk as a receptionist?

Because that's what's happening with KH, he's got great potential but we're paying him a shitload to sit in the VFL or rehab group..

Live in the moment roo fans chase a flag 2015 ;)
Lets face it there are number of players ahead of harper at the moment for his his position starting with mason wood then turner gardner when it gets fit. He simply wont get a game despite his first year show of talent, sad to see him go but i think he feels he needs a fresh start as well.

What it does say too is footballer over athlete is a must. Atleast this year we drafted "footballers" in McDonald, Dumont, Brown and Turner..Need this to continue.

We would seriously need a pick upgrade if he's lumped in with a Cooney trade.

Basically a young guy with dodgy feet for an older gun with very suspect knees, so from a list health pov, it doesn't add up.

Harper + 36 for cooney is a truly ridiculous deal. Pick 36 was already silly enough. Cooney is as good as finished. Bringing in higgins, waite and cooney lol best of luck to all the injury staff they will need it.

Harper is only 22 and has played 40ish games. For at least half of those games he has shown he belongs at the level. Should hold onto him for another year and see what happens, not let him go for a crazy deal like this.

I could see maybe an exchange of your second rounder for the Higgins compo happening with this deal. Somebodies pick is going to be upgraded and it really does depend on how much either of us want to get rid of Cooney/Harper.

I dont believe Harper will be a big loss for us. He has been overtaken by a few similar types: Turner from last year, and Garner from the 2013 season. BUT, he does have value, and I would think an upgrade of our picks would be warranted. The only logical reason otherwise would be for money. Cooneys salary is being covered by Footscray, and Harpers is also covered by them.
IMO, Cooney and pick 26/7 for Harper and 36 is a great deal for the Dogs

No Thanks, no need to get rid of Harper. Plus there is a spot in the forward line waiting for him to get it together.

I can see it already. Coonee plays a few games and gets injured, retires after 17 games for us. Harpers gets his foot right and is a hf gun, plays 150 games for WB.

Please don't let this happen.
It may happen...it may not...

Cooney's 17 games could include a grand final win.
Pick 15 might be a future hall of famer

All ifs and buts at this stage mate

Turner has taken that.

Yep. Time stops for nobody. It's a huge shame that we won't see Harps realise his potential with us but shit, we're moving on and so is he (if what's been reported is correct). All the best to him.

I can see it already. The Brownlow medalist who averaged 20 possessions during the year and underwent a full medical with the club - goes on to be a vital cog in our premiership tilt. Harper continues to average 10 possessions in the VFL and plays sporadic games here and there are a bottom 8 club.

I'd hate to think what Hawthorn supporters were like when they traded Will Sierakowski ("but he's got a realllllly nice left boot").
