Must be the only one in the whole world who is excited by the prospect of what this deal could meant to us.

We've enough inside mids, I like most still believe that Cunners & Co have plenty of development left.

Bring it Pies and it would want to be good.
+1, Hear hear, etc.

Off ya go Levi, sell high, get a good pick back, save a kid from delisting or from having to pay out the likes of McMahon, open up more chances for Jacobs, Dumont, even Basti.

Consider today's two announcements: as great a year as he had, Levi took 2 years of development to learn how to play his role. Jacobs sought out the coaches to ask what adjustments he had to make to his game to get a run and within half a season adapted to where the opportunities where. Sure, there is legitimate uncertainty over how far he will go beyond the next season, but how does anyone even question his desire to be part of the North Melbourne Football Club?

Bring the Jalopy round TheBuzz, I'm riding shotgun.

Reports are Collingwood likely to offer their #30 draft pick. This is the same mob that want #23 for Lumumba. If true I would tell them to get f***ed and deal with the Doggies.
If Pies and Greenwood won't budge then bye bye off to the pre-season draft you go Levi..
That's just plain insulting! 23 for a bloke they want to get rid of and 30 for a bloke they chased hard, yep makes complete sense?!?!

If pick 30 is the best offer then I see no issue in sending him yo the PSD. At least him and the filth can then sweat on if he makes it through?

Might just be me but these blokes who string a club along then head off on an o/s trip and advise that they are leaving from 10,000km away "and by the way my phone will be out of range so you can't contact me" smack of weak people like those who break up with their partners via text.

Disppointed hearing this but not hard on him. Met him a few times at North functions (also sponsored him one year) and he's a decent guy.

Before the second half of the year he had not cemented himself as a best 22 player. Next year he may even be pushed to the fringe again like Basti this season. If the Pies are offering massive $$$ and essentially guaranteed game time then it's hard to knock back (similar to Luke Delaney).

The thing this does is gives us trade currency to pick up a guy like O'Rouke or heaven forbid - David Swallow. If we end up getting a reasonable swap then we may have end up with a stronger list.

I'm disappointed that Levi's going, especially with the form he showed this year. I think he's a valuable player and will show that at Collingwood.

Two things:

I'll be annoyed if he continues to show that form at Collingwood and is lauded as a 'star' for doing what he did here, somewhere else. A case of North players not being given the credit they're due by the wider football supporting populace. Yes, his new contract shows he's valued by Collingwood, but I'm talking about the broader perceptions.

If there is some truth to the assessment/speculation that perhaps we didn't manage this as well as we might. And I mean IF, then that concerns me. While I don't expect perfection (alright, I do) it might highlight that either in terms of player management by coaches, that he needed to be managed better, or by Walsh/Joyce. I accept all the arguments that he needed to work on his game (he did) and that we weren't going to pay overs either early on, or at the end (I agree with LuvtheKangas comments re flow-on effect of overpaying). BUT, I hope the club don't get complacent or self-righteous and take it as an opportunity to review how we lost a 'critical signing'.

With this last point, it is the sense that Levi didn't feel sufficiently valued that I'm speaking to. Of course, it might just be about the money.

Yep gutless really.

Lol at giving our 8th best midfielder a $400k+ 4 yr deal. If we get pick 20-25 or a decent player we win the trade easily. #toomanyinsidemids
Well, the balance will certain be addressed now.

I hate to see Pig leave, but if a bloke doesn't want to be here because of $$$ then he can **** right off. You turn your back on North then expect the same treatment.

Must have been real hard finding a remote enough location in Bali where phones are out of range. He is probably using his new prepaid sim card at the minute that Pickering has given him, having switched off his normal mobile, waiting to be told when it's safe to come out of hiding.

Realistically it is the best thing for Levi, with all of Collingwood's inside mids now leaving or retired, he would be their #1 inside mid, he has the opportunity to hunt the footy, something he wasn't even allowed to do with us this year.

I think he has the potential to become a better player, it is not Levi's fault that we have Swallow and Cunnington as the primary inside mids, we played too inside heavy trying to make it work but we were badly exposed at times because of it.

I think it is better for both parties. I think he would have been prone to falling back to bad footy as a third or fourth string inside mid with us which reflected our reluctance to over-expose ourselves, I think he is less likely to being the primary ball hunter at Collingwood.

He is a massive need for them though with Beams leaving, but it isn't free agency, they would have to offer us something significant in return and we should look at the opportunity to plug a hole in our side, we should demand someone who is of equivalent worth.

I am devastated to see him leave.

Whilst his talent didn't come through till this year his commitment to the cause and attack at the ball and man was exactly what this club is about. I can remember multiple examples of ridiculous courage going back with the flight of the ball, as recently as the Essendon final on the Southern Wing.

Having said that, this does hurt. Some of us have been in his corner right from the start, even urging him on when he came on as a sub against GWS in 2013 and sprayed his first kick out on the full, and glouriously shouted "Get around the Pig" when his goal in Rd 2 announced

Does anyone remember the footage from AFL Insider back in 2010? where they showed Brad coaching him at training, then made fun of him being the coaches pet? What's happened?!

Should we be angry at Levi for chasing the cash, or at the club for letting this happen?

I know we can't expect to keep everyone, but Levi's one I really didn't want to go. He was all about North I thought.

I find it staggering that people on the outside of the club (myself included) with absolutely no friggin' idea of the detail involved in the list management can claim that this has been mismanaged. For all you know, their could be other issues at play. We have the best recruitment/list management team in the business and I find this sort of comment immensely disrespectful to the hard work they do.

At best, we get to have the odd conversation with people inside the club who give snippets of information which are sometimes valid. Christ, Ziebell told me on Friday that he'd just had a bit of a cleanup. Less than 30 minutes later, a more senior individual in the club explained that he'd had a full reco. No point making judgements until the facts are laid bare.

Rant over!
How have you come to this conclusion? Sustained success over a period of time? Just how are our guys better than Sydney, Hawthorns or Geelongs?

Ahem. The Jalopy is mine. TheBuzz only brought a Dodgem Car.

Im disappointed he wants to go now, but you can hardly blame him. No opportunities for 2 years, and then he finally gets a game. No contract offer until the end of the year. Cant blame him at all, and your comment is misguided!!
He was offered a contract earlier in the year which he didn't like and he was playing 2's for the majority of the last two seasons because he wasn't following instructions on field when he did get his chance, despite being on decent coin. Lets not re-write history here.

Levi's good form came after he was asked to work on his game, he was then given an opportunity and took it with both hands and as a consequence had his best full season by far. He played in 3 finals and was an influential player after the initial contract offer. Pies came in, North upped their offer and Levi decided to bail. If he feels hard done by then he really needs to take a good, hard look at himself, and his manager is doing him a disservice in the long run if he is fuelling this perception.
