Hotton has such a high ceiling I am very happy we took him. Risky. But if we take a long term approach and get him absolutely right and teach him how to manage himself we might get a brand new shiny Shai Bolton to play with.

And Hotton is the perfect addition to our big powerful mids we picked.

He's one of the most natural footy players I've seen I reckon. When he adds a bit of size and strength he will be an absolute menace in the centre.

I think especially with where we are with the rebuild (essentially ground zero) it was the perfect draft for a few Hail Mary high risk picks

We are still going to be pretty rich in terms of super top end draft picks for the next few drafts so we will be able to to draft according to what doesn’t quite work out to ensure we have a well balanced group come through overall

NFI why people wanted Allen, rangy mid with no skills. I liked Berry instead of Faul at that pick but if we'd taken Berry/Reid who knows how that might've altered the picks thereafter. Could miss out on Trainor or Armstrong, much more important players to our structure going forward. Ended up with Alger who looks every bit the player Berry is, so basically we nailed the **** out of it.
Trainor is the interesting one.
Coaches are highly surprised at his mobility this early in the piece. Looking more like a tall runner with an elite kick that can intercept mark than a key defender on the track.

Not sure what position he would play but it’s an exciting that they have a few options with him. Perhaps he ends up on a wing.

Interesting that his coach said that he could play wing. We have a heap of decent KPDs. So I can see the logic in trying him in the midfield and seeing if we can get a weapon there. Sort of a Richo on the wing, but for his career.

Anyway, Hotton

I was over the moon that we ended up with both Hotton & Trainor, as they were rated so high at the start of the season. Injury played its part in both players drifting like they did & I'm so happy we took the risk. Both have huge upside if our club can manage their issues. Also see Lalor with huge upside, as he has come into the club for a first preseason in multiple years with his cricket background, so he probably hasn't reached his full potential in junior footy. Very excited the watch all the kids over the next few seasons why we are still rebuilding. Also not worried about our ladder position over the next couple of seasons, as long as we are getting games into the kids & see improvement in the game plan.

Got to take risks if you want to win flags. Go tigers!
