This guy must've been their draft darling to snap him up at 14. You can tell in the draft video with how Blair reels off compliments for him but then he had less to say about Armstrong right after (who I think is more talented).

One thing I will say is the fumbled marks across all his vision makes me nervous about his prospects. I don't like talls that don't consistently one grab marks. This guy has a bit of butter fingers about him. Buddy had butter fingers with his marking so it's not exactly a death sentence but it means they have to be special elsewhere to compensate.

The positive is he seems to follow up most of his dropped marks to keep the play alive. Something I will keep an eye on with his development for sure.

Yes I noticed that amongst his highlights...too many to be ignored.
Hope he is a mongrel in his 2nd attempts at the ball!

Yeah for sure, it was just...surprising for the 14th pick in the draft.

And I tend to think clean grab marking you either have or you don't as a tall. Not something that is developed with experience. We will see.

Both very very overrated imo

Both got a shit load of free kicks in the years they won the Coleman. But they are more than good enough to get you a couple of flags if they could sort out the rest of the side.

Curnows record in finals and against good sides isn’t exactly stellar though. Overrated

So you’re a better judge of a player than our recruiters? Turn it up

Forwards who can halve contests when outnumbered, or consistently not get beaten 1 v 1 are worth more than forwards who can do all the traditionally pretty stuff. That is why we went Faull 1 Armstrong 2.

Not sure where this idea that Faull isn’t a great mark is coming from. If it’s based on highlight videos suggest that go back and watch actual full games (I.e. Vic Country v WA which where in appalling conditions).

Anyone watching him over the last two years would say contest marking is a definitive strength.

That’s complete @&#$# rubbish , were u watching the Whitlock highlights package , all I see were clean one grab contested marks . I watched all of the talls tapes , for mine most impressive contested mark were Shanahan/sims . Both Faull and Harry move really well which is a bonus too but def above avg overhead marking skill

Here is some highlights from a game in the finals last year. He was touted as a top prospect before having some back stress injuries early this year before getting back to fitness and playing well in the backend of this year with hauls of 4 & 5 goals in the finals.

“One of the more exciting key forward prospects for 2024, Jonty Faull shows here his running capacity to present around the ground, as well as his ability to hit the scoreboard with a nice 4 goal haul. He also demonstrates an almost Jed Walter like enthusiasm for chasing and tackling.”

Pretty clear to see across all his vision he fumbled a number of marks. Not sure why people are getting sensitive about it or lying about it not being there.

Doesn't mean he won't be a very good player. Not every prospect is perfect so let's not pretend otherwise

No one’s getting sensitive. Nor is anyone stating that he’s perfect.

What myself and others are saying is that your claim he ‘fumbled a number of marks’ and has ‘butter fingers’ is incorrect.

I can only assume the vision you’re referring to is snippets of moments and not much more. Because if you watched say the whole of the Prelim final GWV against Oakleigh you would have seen the 7 or so marks or countless halving contests and not being outmarked. Leading to 5 goals and an upset win.

Or the game against the Allies where he didn’t numerous contested and difficult marks. Leading to a 3 goal outing and a comeback win.

I can only think that the fumbles you state he has are either in contest situations or are from such a limit vision that you’ve extrapolated to form a weakness that doesn’t exist.

I have watched everything I could find online for him and just sat down and watched the Oakleigh game you mentioned.

I counted around 5 fumbled marks from him. At least 3 of them realistically I would've expect him to clean grab given his body position and delivery. A lot of contests I filtered out as it wasn't realistic to mark the ball. He had a few clean marks (didn't say he can't take contested mark) and juggled the few others.

His positioning was a bit discouraging playing form behind a lot and getting caught behind which meant he had to spoil quite a bit. He is a good at making sure his opponent doesn't mark the ball for sure.

I'll watch the Allies game later.

How about we do this.

You tell me at what time every one of those 3-5 fumbles you mention in that game on the back of the highlights.
