Hindsight is 2020 and all however with how things have gone since Atley was delisted, if instead of delisting him we’d moved him into the middle and allowed him to be a see ball get ball mid, I reckon he’d still be playing. And we probably wouldn’t have dipped as low.

Lol......Reminds me of this.Is his middle name really Parker?

I’ve heard the old “Atley was never tried in the midfield” from folks around here almost as much as I’ve heard “true communism has never been tried” from Unknown Pleasures tshirt-wearing uni undergrads over the years.
Newsflash to all of you. ALL of you - both things have been tried. Both were equally as disastrous.
Personally I had no issue with Atley staying on at the time with our player turnover. Bloke was durable and played within his limitations for the most part, with a better balance of vision / disposal around him he would have been (and was in our better teams) a useful cog. That said, nup, just didn't have the vision and 3d view in close at AFL level. Midfield is more than the odd running fast from a stoppage.Hindsight is 2020 and all however with how things have gone since Atley was delisted, if instead of delisting him we’d moved him into the middle and allowed him to be a see ball get ball mid, I reckon he’d still be playing. Yeah its like the shape of the ground in front of him directed his attention and assisted his focus. Weird but definitely noticeable. His best footy was as a forward
Atley had no peripheral awareness and panicked whenever an opponent was within 10m of him. He was never given an extended stint in the midfield BC whenever he was tried there he was awful. It's rewriting history to suggest otherwise
Genuinely the single worst disposal I've ever seen from a North player. not sure ive ever seen a north player shit themselves as bad as that in a crucial momentI will never ever forget the game against the Bombers where we had them hemmed up against the line with a minute to go, the defence set up perfectly with Robbie Taz just taking multiple intercepts.
Then Atley kicks into the middle, ball spills and that overrated little shitman AMT arses the winning goal.
Unforgiveable stuff.
glad you said that because i was beginning to question my memory of ats, his classic move was breaking free and having momentum only to freeze like a possum in a set of headlights and waste any separation he had gained then pass an ordinary disposal under pressure.Atley had no peripheral awareness and panicked whenever an opponent was within 10m of him. Yes, his best work IMO, though rarely shown, was in the absolute thick of it as an inside mid, which we had well covered with Cunnington.Atley was hardly tried in the midfield. Maybe a few stints here or there. He certainly wasn't given an opportunity along the lines of a whole season to show what he could do.
I remember watching his junior highlights and some of his burst from stoppages was Judd like. Seemed to me like a waste to just chuck him on a back flank for his career like we did. But that's Brad Scotts for you.
It was a shocker thoughI love that it took less than 250 posts for the Parker thread to devolve into "remember that specific kick Atley did 7 years ago that lost us a game"
I will never leave Bigfooty
My word it was. ****ing Ats.It was a shocker though
I agree it’s a great pick up for you guys, I was challenging that it was an immense accomplishment though from your list team. It's immense because of all the options he has chosen us in our darkest period in club's history. It's not easy to attract anyone in such times, let alone someone who is still going ok
I reckon GC and Essendon could benefit from his servicesI agree it’s a great pick up for you guys, I was challenging that it was an immense accomplishment though from your list team.
Swannies list profile was never going to give Parks a big option to extend, so he was always going to look elsewhere for a superannuation contract. Especially after being forced to work so hard to make it back into the 1s this year.
Given his age and though, only a few teams in rebuild phases would be a great fit. North obviously squarely in that mix, but who else would make sense? Richmond maybe? StKilda probably not, and he’s not going to go anywhere non NSW or VIC.
Hope you get a good lot of games out of him, besides busting his arm this year he’s been extremely reliable. But you’ll get value from leadership alone
can’t see him going to QLD, and Essendon doesn’t need that seniority, with guys like Merrett, Shiel, Laverde, Parish are covering that leadership requirementsI reckon GC and Essendon could benefit from his services
