He was a drain on the club and a disgrace against women. He had too many opportunities to STFU and get on with footy but he chose to contact women in a disrespectful way. I loved Tarryn as a player but the reality is he would be a huge distraction for our young players to build a culture that will win our next premiership. We can now put forward the $700k we saved to a gun key forward (JUH) or similar. Great decision by the club. 👏
I think something viney called out well is there are 2 tarryns one around the club and one in relationships

The one in relationships outside the club is the issue
Unfortunately he’s an idiot and to your point doesn’t know how to stfu

Would be the easiest person to bait

The good news from a list management viewpoint is we now know very early in the year that we'll have around $800k extra (or whatever we planned to offer him) in the salary cap from next year and beyond. We can now target free agents from early in the year with clarity and offer better new deals to guys in their last year. No waiting for Thomas to make a decision later in the year.

Additionally, if we'd offered him 4 years at say $800k next year, and this all came to light then, even with behavioural clauses, we'd likely have to pay part of his salary at his new club for 3 years. As bad as this whole situation is, better that it happened in his final year.

Even just offering him that type of contract after how pathetic his football output and conditioning has been over the last 3 years would've really p!ssed off a lot of players.

In the aftermath of this, I just hope that both parties have some really good, non-judgemental people that they can rely on for support. Without wishing to make any judgement against anyone, it would seem that much of the reason for what has happened, lies with Tarryn and his actions and on balance of probability, those actions have been substantially short of what any respecting community might expect. Nevertheless, he needs someone in his corner, just to make sure he doesn't stray on to a path, that might lead to a disastrous outcome.

Yes agreed. Even if the AFL suspension wasn't as heavy as it is, the fact that he was so blatantly disrespecting Sonja, Jen, Todd, Clarko and everyone else at the club who bent over backwards and risked damage to their own reputation and livelihood means that he had to * right off from our club. And you can't convince me otherwise.
Disrespecting Sonja especially after a cancer scare? How could anyone conceivably do something like that?

There's no way Tarryn would've had the slightest of chance convincing anyone he could change. He literally betrayed the club. We were waiting for the conclusion and then wasted no time to finish things up.

Poor Todd, too. How much shit did he have to endure when he could've allocated his time and resources to mentoring our playing group? He looked exhausted!

Yeah, maybe Tarryn needed a hard arse when he first joined the club but this is 100% on him. He had the resources and spat in the face of the people that tirelessly tried to help him.

Ugh... we used to love watching this bloke light up Marvel and now I want to vomit.

A real shame and waste of talent.

However the right move.
We don't need this as a distraction all season.
I wouldn’t have viewed it as a distraction

I wouldn’t have put any time into him almost as a test to see how he goes 18 weeks to himself. See if he can finally figure it out himself and mature or do something stupid again

Then make a decision

If nothing else I guess we now have an AFL Integrity Unit defined benchmark for AFL player behaviour in relation to DV and use of social media, the Tarryn Thomas Benchmark. Looking forward to clubs and the AFL applying the TTB consistently across the competition from now on 👍
You would like to think so. Not sure it will pan out that way sadly.

I was filthy reading the text message given to the papers earlier, but to have it confirmed he was doing this shit WHILE suspended and doing the respect and responsibility courses is such a kick in the nuts to everyone. TT seemingly doesn't have any respect in him. Not for the club, not for his partners, not for himself.

Simple fact is the club couldn't have any faith in him whatsoever anymore. He had chances, and secretly blew them up behind everyone's back and just lied through his teeth. Why would you have any belief that this time would be any different? Oh, and the bullshit with him "seeing out his contract" the last couple of years. **** off. Was actively looking at other offers for two ****ing years then some people celebrate when he gives the most benign of statements saying he was going to stick with the club.

He has no loyalty, no respect, and I wouldn't trust him to look after my pet rabbit for a day.

Good riddance.

The AFL R&R policy refers to all who engage in the code, so does not appear to be restricted to players.

An AFLW list consists of 30 players, so if TTB is the benchmark, then the shortlist for the WB job last week is a little bit inconsistent.

From purely footballing perspective, Im actually not that sad - at least not as sad as what I may have been 12 months ago.

Its funny, it was only in the hit out Vs the pies i tried to figure out where he'd play. He would certainly be an upgrade on Simpkin as a half forward/ mid but no club would push someone of Jys traits out for someone one misstep away from career over.

On a more positive note, we already looked primed to hit free agents now we should have a warchest.

We can dare to dream hugely on FAs.

Do you think anyone in the media will draw the comparison with Hawthorn fiasco - ie getting too involved a players personal life or essentially taking on a more passive role and watching them implode?
Exactly the point I was trying to make but was too busy being a smart arse...at one point Clarko would have inserted himself in the situation far more....that wasn't going to happen here after the hawthorn saga was it?

It’s the main silver lining of this, it’s going to be near 5mil others will deserve a piece of and we can use to polish off our squad. And that’s adding it to the McKay bonus we got for Wil Dawson.

Im proud of the club, we've shown our players and everyone else we'll stand by our players and do what it takes for any corrective action thats required. Up to a point. Cant be more fair than that.

Hell yeah id forgotten the massive saving on McSpud already. To be fair id forgotten about him too.

I will happily boo this campaigner and it will have nothing to do with his skin colur. He's a POS.
Cool story.

He won't be playing so not sure how you're going to be booing him and no idea why you'd bring up skin colour if it has nothing to do with it.
