I did not see him get in to full gallup at any time during the carnival.

No link up, no hitting the front of the packs at full speed, nothing like that.

He was either coasting, or he is carrying some injury.

Thumb as mentioned, but slight knee issue, nothing major, bit of a possible floater.

If he is rated 8th now he'll keep dropping when he returns to Tas. Good chance to be able to use our first and get something like Hately, Thomas and Scott. That would be a great draft.
I guess the question is will be drop in the eyes of the club recruiters?

If he was carrying something those that should know will.

Some smartarse will call our bluff and make us pay up big.

While they'll all sit on their hands and allow son of Judas to make it to Cola cheap.

True, that's a completely different thermos of tadpoles. My thinking is at this point there is plenty of time for a bolter or two to make their stamp on the TAC Cup and that us dropping to 10th or 11th could have quite a lustrous lining.

Exactly right. Given Tarryn didn't visibly enhance his stocks, hopefully another few TAC Cup or SA or WA players have big finishes to the season.

Feel like it would be particularly good for Tarryn if he wasn't our first pick and we had a more mature bodied mid in whose shadow he could develop. His frame will take the best part of half a decade to fill out I imagine.

Wouldn't think it'd make that much difference in the end. When a draft is seen as strong and pretty deep at the top end they're going to recruit the guys that they see as having the most potential and who perform amazingly this year. You don't stuff around just to make other clubs pay unless you are very confident in the guy you might end up with. If Thomas has an average year, injury or otherwise he'll go down the pecking order IMO.

Let's hope so.

D_P_S actually had Scott falling from 35 to 45 in his latest rankings but I'm not sure why.
His rationale
He is a hard one for me to rate, he is sort of a low impact ball winner, his speed is only ok and he is solid without being elite in contested and uncontested ball winning. Any player from 30 onwards could easily be moved out of my top 50 which shows how close it is in that range, plenty of players outside my top 50 that could go top 30 in the draft aswell.

From Tasmania/Allies

After an outstanding Academy series when he led Tasmania to the title and he won the Harrison Medal as the best player of the carnival, Thomas was unable to reach those heights for the Allies in the division one championships. He was solid without being outstanding, but still had his moments of class. Behind Thomas' skills is a real toughness that underpins his game – he attacks the ball and player ferociously and enjoys a big tackle. North Melbourne may have to use its first pick at the draft to match a bid on the Next Generation Academy prospect.

A bit from KM on the draft board:

I have strong opinions on Thomas.

What I love and what coaches will love is his work defensively without the ball - not only tackling but smothering everything - it feels like he gets 2-3 smothers every game on top of 6-8 tackles.

He's otherwise someone with the attributes and he can win the contested ball.

Offensively is where I have issue with Thomas and why I don't believe he'll be someone we look back on as a best 10 player from this draft. Unlike a Sydney Stack or Collier-Dawkins who win the ball at stoppages at speed on the move and accelerate away through traffic, it's a lot of stationary ball winning from Thomas and as a result you don't see him opening up games. On the outside he doesn't find a whole lot of it, and I haven't found him breaking the lines or opening the game up with his kicking in any capacity throughout the carnival.

As a result, my view is Thomas is absurdly overrated. He's someone around pick 10-15 is suitable to place a bid on, but anything earlier and clubs in my view would be making a mistake.

I'm not even certain where I'd want him playing. His work a couple of years back running off half-back was probably the best I've seen him play, and I think he needs that kind of space in front of him to run onto to make use of those gifts more so than playing through the middle.

-------
There seems to be a generally accepted top 8 at the moment in club circles.

Taking no consideration into club needs/who would have the pick at years end. The rough feel at the moment is:
1. Lukosius
2. Walsh
3. M.King
4. B.King
5. Blakey
6. T.Thomas
7. B.Smith
8. Rankine
----------

Adelaide poster Cleric post :

Have you listened to the road to the draft podcast with Hamish O from Adelaide? Was talking about Thomas (called him triple T) and said they have followed him for years due to his Tasmanian contacts and rates him a top 10 pick, also said they will place bids to keep clubs honest. So I could see the Crows bidding on Thomas with our first pick.

KM:

Can't say I've tuned into any podcasts.

T.Thomas has been on the draft radar for a number of years now - two years ago starring for Tasmania and looking like their best prospect even then.

The expectation is a bid will come inside the first 8, maybe first 5 for Thomas.

KM:

For the record, Rankine I view as clearly better than Thomas. I don't feel they should be in the same conversation.

With that said, a lot of recruiters still view Thomas a top 3 prospect. He's still high on a lot of draft boards. Much higher than I would be willing to place him.
