Justin McInerney
Sydney Swans youngster Justin McInerney is lightning-quick, an endurance machine and a clean user of the footy who’s best used on a wing or at half-back. The Northern Knights product was called up for his AFL debut against Melbourne at the SCG in Round 4, 2019, and although he wouldn’t feature at the top level again in his first year at the club, he was a stand-out in the NEAFL. McInerney is eyeing more opportunities at senior level in 2020.

Second half of the year has been really good and pushing him to HFF as well as wing has been a very clever move. We've got Gulden and Campbell on the two wings now primarily which is great so a move for McInerney to HF has been helping that and his own form. Kicking goals, getting involved running forward and getting back into defence. Felt like he needed a circuit breaker for his form and he got it.

He's a very coachable player and capable of a number of roles, including even inside occasionally.

If he puts on a bit more size while maintaining the zip, he could be anything.
J McInerney 189cm 83kg
J Daicos 178cm 77kg
Ed Langdon 181cm 74kg
Bayley Fritsch 186cm 74kg
Isaac Heeney 185cm 88kg
Callum Mills 188cm 86kg
What position did you have in mind?
He's on the big side for a gut running winger. Decent size for a HFF or HBF.
Already big enough to be a good size mid.

Mid. Imo lot of the reported weights look bs. Mills look way bigger than 86kg.

The Swans stats from the club website. The other players from footywire.
Justin is a pretty good size as is. He certainly could hit the weights and add a few kg to his upper body. Doubt it would hurt. The big question would be how best to use him.
Been interesting to see him playing a bit further forward to some effect.

That contest last night where he ran back with the flight showed a lot of the courage and hardness he lacked earlier in the year. His transition to then burst forward with pace immediately afterwards was very impressive.

Great to see him on song. Has the footy smarts and used his skills to create a number of times.

Thank goodness this bloke continues to run and take the game on in Q4.

He and Chad were about the only ones in the final quarter who were being positive and attacking by taking the game forward with confidence rather than getting stuck in the mud in a defensive mindset.

I always think back to when he tore North apart. Surely we can play him in the middle? We can't exactly do any worse than we currently are

Certainly could end up there, give him a pre season training as a mid predominantly and see how he goes I’d say.

The list is in a slightly funny spot with McInerney, Campbell, Gulden and Stephens all playing the wing at times throughout the last couple of years. Ideally we’d want at least two of those to end up playing inside more as they get older and progress.

Was outstanding last night in defence. I agree, it’s slightly confusing as to why he has not had an extended run in the midfield, but after watching last night I think he needs to play defence.

His ability to win contests and to then counter punch with aggressive runs or kicks especially in the second half, was exceptional.

Is hard at the ball, shows great judgement of the ball in the air and keeps his feet. His disposal is elite also, has great touch.
