Autopsy Swans by 27 over GWS the 2nd quarter to be watched ad infinitum

In addition, you're risking tinkering with a symmetry that has developed to sensational levels between the forward group, the mids and the forward group, all to bring new in...

As far as I can see, we will continue debuting players via the sub to ensure their long term development. We'll deal with the Mills and Parker issues when they come up...

This wasn't a bad game... we played well. Losing Melican gave them an opportunity to mount a comeback, and they did. They're a good team.

I really don't think Rowie is getting enough love! Heeney injured, Warner tagged... up steps Rowie! Sublime!!!!

Good point.

Someone said Melican was shit? that was odd to me. Melican , Rampe, Mccartin have become quite a trio , like Alvin and the Chipmunks . Hogan is a big boy , they worked together well and Melican going off made that very noticeable.

Rowbottom is at the Nick Smith school of profile building, even shines as a superstar and the press don't notice. He was everywhere, defensively and offensively and continues to show us all what he can do. If he also didnt have to tackle and curtail all day he could do the flashy brownlow vote getting shit every week. He is a leader out there.

I feel like the way that we're talking is really damned if you, damned if you don't sort of stuff.

The way I see it we have two options
1. We don't change anything and lose
2. We mix stuff around, bring in Parker and drop Wicks, and we lose

Which will look dumber in hindsight? Because I think you need a very good reason to change a forward line that consistently creates over 100 points a game, and if we lose after changing what has worked all year, I'm going to go ahead and say that looks pretty dumb.
Kapers, can you please provide a 3rd option where we win 🤷‍♂️😂

Papley was ****ing woeful as skipper, since then he seemed to have a better forward mid mix and has been ****en sensational imo, every week he is up and about lately. Should be getting into AA squad discussions

Yes you’re right, but with a 3 game (plus %) buffer, I’d prefer they play it safe with Chad if need be.

Yes both he and Heeney can play with some shoulder injury/pain, but given our ladder position, I’m sure our medical staff will ‘manage’ them as required.
The issue is, they are all playing with some sort of injury and/or niggle... it entirely depends on whether 'resting' for a week would do any good, and that depends of the type of injury.

Maybe resting won't heal the injury, it will need surgery at the end of the year... in that case, the knowing that corrective surgery will sort it and of course, knowing that they are not risking the rest of their career, then they play on...

We, the audience, like to think they should rest if injured, but sometimes that is simply not the best way to go...

Hoping Heeney and Warner just had soreness rather than injuries? any actual reports?
Nope, not that I've seen but Heeney is either shoulder or collar bone I would have thought, and collarbone is sure unlikely? You could see the tape under the gurnsey... and a couple of times during the match you could see the pain

Good point.

He got smacked into the ground with a few tackles early. Hopefully just aggrevating the weak/sore areas. As you say manageable niggles everyone carries

Don't think Melicsn was shit, but it definitely wasn't one of his best games. To his credit that's because he's set such a high bar this year by making shit all mistakes and rarely losing one-on-ones.

I think what you’re saying applies more to Heeney.

With Chad, I would *hazard a guess that he had a mild subluxation of the shoulder , which actually would benefit from: some rest to let it heal, physical therapy, and pain medication… * I bloody hope I’m wrong!! 🙏

Our ability to pile on goals when we get on a run is what is winning us games.

Conversely, the opposition's ability to put a few on us when they get a run is a concern. Generally it's been in the first quarter but last night, GWS had the better of us for part of the 3rd and most of the 4th.

Overall though, a really clinical performance in terrible conditions. The usual suspects played well. With Mills to come back soon, Campbell would need to play the game of his career to not make way for the captain. I also think we could rotate Parker in if any of our mids are carrying a niggle.

Every win you get the media post about who will stop Sydney.

People always say well they have to win at the MCG that will stop them. If you say yeah true how unfair finish top and face a massive disadvantage, they lose their minds. No it's perfectly fair , yet you just sighted it as a problem for us.

Focusing on the good stuff , I thought the Lizard had a very good game .

That dash through the middle was outstanding , his contested work is improving all the time and the rain wouldn't help his natural game, but he is a tough bugger.

blakey has always had the attacking flair but the improvement in his defensive play over the past two seasons has been a big part of the team's improvement ... he's so damn fast, he can cover a lot of ground to spoil and provide a contest, and his judgment and ability to read play (in attack and defence) are excellent ...
and yes, for sure, he's tough, he cops a lot physically every game

It it because some gf haven’t even been close

Games are ended 20mins in

Last 10 years we have been the worst performing gf side , games are done by q1

Most others have been closer games

Last year an interstate team almost beat 70k screaming pie fans and the side

Rowbottom was ridiculous, and a clear BOG for mine. He's absolutely elite.

39 contested possessions and 22 clearances in the last two weeks. Insanity.

Yeah but my point is they say it's a challenge but then don't see how it isn't a massive disadvantage for us to play there . If we finish top and Pies 8th and make the granny it's a massive win for them .

It almost feels like we need a loss as crazy as that sounds. 3 wins clear, pressure mounts more and more each week that goes by.

A loss would kind of give us a reset, make us look beatable and we can then still carry on our merry way

Thought he might be close to cooked a couple of years ago. Having an absolute renaissance.

yep, i have been a harsh critic of lloyd in recent seasons, he always seemed to have an overly cautious mindset, certainly in the back half, and his hesitancy and second guessing often ended in play stalling and mistakes/turnovers ...
he now seems to be thriving playing in a team with such an attacking mindset, and his form the past two months or so has been up with the best of his career ... but he is also now playing in the best swans team of his career

How many wins in a row before the thread isn't about all the guys we should drop 😂

I don't think some saw how slow Parker looked in the VFL, he was cooked by the end of those games.

He and others may come in and some get dropped , but for now it seems guy play a role.

I mean discuss what you want, but think there's a lot of positives to look at too.
There’s not a lot else to talk about when opposition teams are just bugs on the windshield.

Or we just go 22-1 win 3 finals and be the greatest ever

Yeah this topic kills me!

Was having the “inequality” debate with a Carlton mate last night and the best he could come up with is “yeah well if a team is good enough, they should be able to win anywhere” … then I said, so Carlton then should be able to win a granny at the SCG? And he says “naah, the granny just has to be played at the MCG”.

Now I get there’s a stupid contract in place with the MCG, but FFS, most of these victorians are in total denial about their huge advantage!! 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ (and let’s not get started about the umps 🥴)

I actually like how we are handling the pressure that comes with being the best, from Horse down they seem to be relishing it. Horse seems pretty comfortable at the presser and I think we have a "cocky" group who actually want to be the best and at the top and get the plaudits/pressure.

Now bring it on the main day of course.

One of the commentators called James Rowbottom a B Grader. That so called B Grader went head to head with Tom Green & equalled the ledger. So, in the case Green must be a B Grader lol. What's more, Green got most of his ball on the outside, not inside. Rowie stitched him up at clearances & stoppages. Rowie was sensational yesterday. They tried to the Chad out, so Longmire put him forward & he kicks two lol. Then he goes back in & destroys Bedford.

Errol is a freak. Some of those passes were just divine. He had 22 @ 100% at one stage. His style is so relaxed and beautiful to watch. It is like the lyric to a great song, a poem by Coleridge or a Monet painting. It is a movement of beauty. There are 22+1 in every side though & every player played their role. Some of the most prominent were McInerney, Lloyd, McLean, Hayward, Paps, Heens, Rowie, Grundy. The whole team really. I am so Happy for Cleary, one kick, one goal. Sensational. He also put on some great pressure that caused a turnover on the wing that led to a goal. Great stuff. Well done young man. Good debut. Plenty to work with there for Horse.
