Yeah I know. Townsend won a flag with us but was going through a purple patch at the time. His form over his whole career suggests he was a very good VFL player but couldn't convert that to AFL form.
Those 5 games though at the backend of 2017 😍

I know its only pre season, but its the first time I have watched him and thought he may not be a bust
Last year when he had 27 disposals vs port last (13 contested), 6 clearances, a gazillion metres gained and inside 50 after inside 50, as well as breaking lines with his run and carry, I thought he won't only not be a bust but will be a very good footballer. You don't pull those numbers unless you have talent to burn.

His game vs the Saints 2 weeks earlier was almost as good too.

And here we are.

He’s played like that often and been dropped the next week . He should have been in front of hopper last year
Maybe so, give him consecutive games and see him grow with confidence. He will make it as a player.

He’s very tough and hard at it for such a modern looking well adjusted boy. Bit like Cotch a battering ram in sheep’s clothing.
His movement and hand skills are elite. He cannot kick though.
He is an asset all the same and to meet him after was great he gave my daughter time to sign footy and have photo taken. Very good lad.

He has elite footy sense including his ability to block for teammates

I was wrong on this one I hope. Super impressive game with strong inside work. Was in every contest and was clean in close by hands , but footskills could do with some work. As mentioned better than Hopper and I’ll add JGTI, KMac and Pickett. Need to play the kids except for Ryan as he’s looking fragile and disinterested.

Not really. He never got much of a chance and never produce much. Was good to see him go back and work on his game in the VFL without the promotion/ demotion emotional merry-go-round. Could have come in earlier as you say but looks like he has matured in the last year a lot both physically and mentally.

Not convinced personally.

I think his handball to kick ratio is very far out of skew. I admire his ability to be willing to be involved around stoppage but we already have Taranto who is limited in the kicking area of his game.

His game in my opinion does not translate to fast ball movement. He would be an absolute nightmare for forwards to lead to as he is choosing hands over kicking 90% of the time.

I think he will get games with Prestia possibly injured. But this being his 5th year in the system I can’t see the ratio changing much.

A player that can release handballs like a magician absolutely enhances fast ball movement.

His kicking whilst not great, is not the issue its being blown into.
