He could have played a 5th quarter on his own and I'm not convinced he would have got another touch.
if you are light on in size you need to be bloody quick or skilful, dow has neither although he is quite handy when he can get some space without anyone roughing him up. maybe try him as a sub when the game has lost its frantic pace but this would be a cop out. cripps is like rowell he will make mince meat out of us if they have ruck dominance. dow might be an ok matchup with cerra. but realistically get some bloody intensity and ferocity boys. presty, hopper and taranto.

Can't have those three lug heads in there, Rowell just pirouetted around them.

If only MRJ could resist burgers in the off season and get fit enough for mid time. He'd be the ultimate shut down player with his burst speed.

Centre clearances account for maybe 5% total game time. Maybe 5% of the game is chewed up by people taking 30 seconds to have a shot on goal. Remaining 90% of game is either we've got it and help link up or they've got it and help get it back or it's in dispute and fight to win it. He wasn't hidden at starvation corner, nor tagging a small forward he was in the guts or part of the rolling maul practically the entire game and was completely ineffective doing zilch. The legendary Dusty comes back, Ross deserves to be promoted. So what do you suggest: drop BnF winner Taranto or our leading possession getter who kicked 2 goals in Hopper??? It's a f@cken no brainer Dow is sub at best. Or dropped.
I did not say drop Hopper or Toranto I said replace one of them in the centre clearances. Only have one in the centre clearance the other can be defensive wing position and swap with jack ross or Marlion Picket as soon as the centre clearance is done

as someone mentioned earlier, Hopper & Taranto both can double as the "caddy-esque- mid sized contested beast, marker type. I'd rather we rotate one of them through that role at all times and maybe move Bolton into the middle, or even one of the Riolis. Midfield was so one paced that it means that if they get creamed in the Clearances or Contested Ball, they are completely toast

Only someone with 2 brain cells looks at the game this way. Centre clearances may account for 5% of game TIME but they create more scoring momentum than any other phase of play. And if you don't score, the oppo can't score too as the ball is in your forward line.

I see your girl friend is loving you again tough man :D

He's from the same draft as Rowell and Anderson so his contemporaries basically pulled his pants down. Obviously they were picks 1 & 2 but he's still a 1st rounder. I reckon it was him crying to Laura Kane to hide players weights as he's f@cken embarrassed that 18 yo speculative pick Kane Mcaulliffe makes him look like Mr Bean in comparison. FMD Mon Conti would've put up more of a fight than him today. WTF it was at Punt Rd that hyped him up all off-season should be embarrassed. Ross should NEVER EVER be selected after Dow again.

Dead set spot on dow will never be a player in a premiership team. Reactive and weak and never creative. A dud.

He had a very quiet one. If he tagged Rowell the first half it would have been a lot closer than 11 goals down
A good mid fielder gets the ball. It's pretty simple. A good mid fielder can't get the ball if he's second guessing an opponent. It's pretty simple. If he was any good (he being Prestia - too old now, Taranto or dow) he would have got the ball before Rowell or Anderson or whoever at least once even if we had no rucking presence or no ‘uckin presence. Bolton and dusty get the ball and they don't have to worry about the others. It's simple. Dow ain't any good.

This is the typical bullsh1t why everyone shouldn't get a medal. You and I both know he wasn't Rowells direct opponent. We don't tag, the 3 mids stand wherever mixing it up spreading out he wasn't glued to Rowell. My mention of Rowell was because he was magnificent and was comparing them because they're same draft and was stating that Rowells shoulder was so bad he would be excused if he was a scrawny weed.

If you honestly think Rowell and Dow were directly matched the whole game you either didn't watch the game at all or have NFI. The Dee's at full strength will often have Gawn, Petracca, Viney and Oliver. Might as well ban him from attending those contests as he was completely ineffective. God help us if Dow looked that bad against lowly GC with Rowell, Miller, Anderson and their other spuds. He wasnt even trying to shepherd, tackle or dive for smothers any 1% desperation that showed he was trying to contribute.
It doesn't matter who hisbdirect opponent was. He just can't get the ball and if he does, he doesn't kick it. He is not a midfielder at this level.

So the 21 possession against St Kilda last year, or the 27 against Port Adelaide away last year or the 20 against Collingwood in the preseason match doesn’t count?

When did possessions become the sole measuring stick of a players success?

No one is saying Dow had a great game nor that he has weaknesses. But those who put the spotlight solely on possession disregard the actual role he played for large parts of the game (as in playing off his man on the defensive side of the center where it’s less likely the ball will fall to you) or don’t seem to want to allow young players to have a bad game.

Yeah he was terrible like the lot of them , but give him a block of games.
You have to have selection integrity though. He was absolutely awful and Dusty should be taking his spot in the midfield if we’re picking our best team. If he played okay i’d be fine with giving him a run but 6 touches as a full time mid that isn’t tagging is just unacceptable

If they cant be clearance players, what is the point of playing them? Surely we have faster, more skilled players for the outside roles.

I was just suggesting some kind of switch out of the centre after the bounce. Like Dusty and Lambert used to do. Bye the way why are you responding to this nonsense at 3:55 am

Yet he got the ball 27 times against Port's very strong midfield last season.

It's one game into a season where we looked like we were in Qld to have a holiday. Carlton were the same against Brisbane. Vlastuin even had a surf the day before.

We got right back into the game and but for some stupid mistakes we could have been right up there clacker in the last Q. Yet it's all doom and gloom. Let's see how they respond, a good shot of Lynh, Dusty and Nank will do no harm.

Outmuscled.

He’s trying to play inside mid when he’s too small.
Rowell is a bull, so hard to measure Dow up against him. No.1 draft pick, 3 BOG's in his first 3 games, injuries hit and he is going to take apart a lot of sides this year. He took all our mids by surprise and took them all to the cleaners. Dow's second half was fine defensively.

He is more of your Edwards type mid. Edwards played inside but not underneath the pack, more your first hands out. We do not have one of these besides Martin and Bolton, which is why he has looked so good the last few times we have seen him. We did kick 7-8 goals to 0 in the second half at one stage, so something must have worked in our midfield group. Just seems the type not to put on bulk, so he has to learn to adapt.

Attended 17 centre bounces and didn’t get a single centre bounce clearance.
