Multiple times today his defensive efforts were bad, tackles not sticking, poor tackling technique, lack of running intensity, outbodied at the contest. He's had his chances.

Banks was very similar and it’s a concern.

Will Martyn is probably the second worst player in the Dimma era only above Relton Roberts.

Will Martyn at least won a magoos BnF. Dow isn't built enough for Men's footy period. My old U12's girls team I coached had a Maori girl I could've sent to him and she would have pole-axed him.

I'm starting to get worried about the 2021 mega haul. We really need 2 A graders and 2 B graders minimum. I was rapt when I heard he left. Without watching any film, live games or interviewing players if I had his Job and hit the admin girl up for $10 petty cash I would've grabbed Oscar Allen and JVR. Sad thing is Balta was because Maric insisted they take him and told them he could mold him into a player so Clarke really botched so many picks and gets credit for picks he never even made. Even the failed players we never trade them for another pick/ player they can't even go and dominate SANFL or WAFL they fade to suburban football obscurity.

Weight for weight Shane would of been one of the toughest players in the AFL.

Probably compelled to give him another couple of games just in case he can find something, but his career looks on life support to me. He just isn't able to penetrate forward often enough in contests to be an AFL midfielder. I don't think the defensive elements of the game suit him either.

Think in back-to-back games we’ve seen the good and the bad of Thomson.

His best attribute is his creativeness in the contest and getting it out of congestion. After Q1 against Carlton with a dominant Nank, he was able to do that on multiple occasions to the betterment of the team.

Against Port he wasn’t able to get that little bit of space he needs in the contest to be creative, with Soldo probably halving the battle against Nank. He’s also not great at getting the ball away from the contest, and isn’t really a player you can rotate forward.

Dow will obviously never be an A grade midfielder. But he still does have that point of difference in the creativity of the contest. I’d persist with him, although it may be a few games back at the VFL in stages.

I know it’s not a great look right now but he’s got to have a decent run at it.
He’s shown enough in patches over the last few games to suggest there’s something there.

It's time we all accept the reason he handballs more often than kicks is basically because he can't kick, so he's trying to gloss over his deficiencies , rather than work on them He's 6cm taller than short who can hoof it 70m off one step. Difference is Shorts mentality is he hated being a tradie and desperately took his AFL chances and worked his arse off.

Dow was riding his brothers then coat tails and knew he'd have an AFL career. No doubt after we delist him his manager will put out a story with photos of how he's working hard and stacked on 8kg of muscle (just like RCD) but the fact is he was too lazy to even bulk up 1kg in 5 years. If you're Diesel Williams or Craig Lambert then handball all day. I thought maybe I was zoning out and struggling to watch properly late last year when so many posters were stroking off over his elite hands. Mcaulliffe and Sonsie deserve opportunity. Dow's squandered his.

The comparisons to Edwards are insulting. The only similarities are both being scrawny when drafted and good hands but in reality Edwards hands are 10x better than Dow. Edwards was also a tough bastard despite his size. At the same age Edwards had him comfortably covered in every facet despite playing in a horrific team at a rabble of a club.

Send him back to the reserves for 2 months minimum before even considering a return to the seniors. the guy is in his 5th season and I could count the good games he's had on one hand. He's got over 30 disposals in the VFL twice in his career, never kicked more than 1 goal in a game, laid more than 5 tackles twice. There's fat bastard full time plumbers that get a meat pie and a big M on the way to VFL games that do better than that weekly.

It’s one thing to have a poor possession and offensive game but as a midfielder there is no excuse for the lack of defensive pressure and effort Thompson is currently putting out

His effort yesterday was a faaaaarken joke, absolutely pathetic to be honest.. Port players were laughing at him while the danced around him and pushed him aside like a cardboard cut out

That’s the most disappointing part about Dow for me…
