That said Dawes, Jones and Frawley put on a reasonable show for a 3 player team that got belted by nearly 100 if you forget about the other 19 clowns wearing red and blue.
Being very harsh on Garland. He tries his guts out every week. He'd look like a world beater down back if you guys improved and your midfield put decent pressure on.

From memory there was more vs GCS last week

1. Melbourne home game

Does this really make a difference? I mean, it doesn't make the MCG any more difficult to get to for Hawthorn supporters than a Hawks home game, does it? And there wouldn't be any less general admission tickets available, would there?

Take out their 3 game memberships, the dog and cat memberships (which the Hawks pioneered), their fanbase is no bigger than St Kilda.

Andy D sweeping the whole tanking thing under the carpet is a big part of this as well.

Does anyone really care that much about this that they're turned off of going to games by it? It's not like it even turned out turned out advantageously for Melbourne, to give any non-Melbourne supporters any reason to be bitter about it.

Late Sunday afternoon game, freezing weather in the wind tunnel that is the MCG, poor quality of one side meaning a forgone conclusion, Live on free to air, should I go on?
If you're going to attack something at least have the facts and general understanding to back it up

Poor old crowd at a poor old game - bringing the game into disrepute?

What sort of membership numbers are these clubs claiming (poor crowd)?

How many of their members were in the AFL reserve ?

How many of their fans preferred the MCC reserve?

Was this game a make up game for the Hawks members to cover the games in Tassie?
Why the new thread? Just troll it into the Crowds thread.

I'd go if the game started at 2.10 like it used to. The 3.20 time slot means I'd need to leave early in the last quarter to catch the last train home so kind of defeats the purpose, even if the result is already decided

I guess to explain it to our friend Kwality, there is a different mindset for Victorian football supporters in general. I get the vibe that Victorian supporters are there for the actual football as much as their team, whereas WA fans (West Coast in particular) seem to be more tribal, 'team' supporters more than football supporters. So while some may see a game against Melbourne as an ability to see your team win big and get all parochial, the mindset over here is more of the disappointment of the impending poor football display.

It also explains the 'Boo' complex as well. West Coast fans seem far more eager to boo at opposition players or umpires at any sign of disadvantage, even if not explicitly unfair, whereas Victorian supporters are more likely to support a good footballing display from both teams without resorting to a droning 'boo'. Remember Jono Brown being booed for coping a knock to the head? Doubt it would ever happen at the G.
Nah, load of wank.

Vics get to see their side that many times that they get to be picky about what games they go and see. Its no high and mighty mindset of supporting good football. The mindset is if I don't like this game I will just wait a week for one that I do like. We kind of don't get that option over here.

Hawks play 7 away games in Melbourne this year. They get runs of up to 5 games in a row in Melbourne. Even with a bye the next Hawks game in Melbourne is only 12 days away. After tomorrows game we dont get to see the eagles play live for a month. So excuse me if I get in my monthly boooooing quota. Its WA Day, expect us to get all tribal and parochial BOOOOOOOOOOOO.

:)

Live on free to air

Didn't Andrew Demetriou himself categorically rule this out as a factor that affects crowd numbers a few years ago?

I mean really, for people who had no plans to attend the game, who looks at the TV guide and goes "Oh hang on, the game is a delayed telecast by an hour on tele. Lets rush off to the MCG and pay to watch it live instead"? By the same token, who has tickets to the game or plans on going, and upon finding out the game is live on television and not a delayed telecast, drops their plans and just stays home and watches on television instead? Very, very, very few people I would imagine. It's a ridiculous concept to think it's anywhere near a widespread factor in attendances IMO.

I don't think the game being delayed or live would make much difference, but I think FTA vs Foxtel probably would.
