And once again you bring in issues totally irrelevant to what is the debate here.

If you are unhappy with leadership and discipline issues then start a separate thread on the matter, or better still write a letter to the club and make your concerns known there. Otherwise spare us your irrelevant thoughts.

Leadership thread at http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/index.php?threads/1054721/

Still shouldn't the throw be in the category of not enough force to warrant a suspension, wasn't that bad

If logic ruled yes, but this is the AFL tribunal and they are a long way from logical.

He will be fine for the throw, BUT I must say that Boomer was lucky that he made Picken land flat on his back. Anywhere near landing on his head and he would have been in real strife.

If you don't like my thoughts, don't read them. What makes you think I give a shit if you approve of my thoughts or need your permission where I can or can't express them.

Just quietly - and a little off-topic - I think Mark Austin was lucky to get the same penalty as the other wrestlers... That headlock on Thomas looked pretty ordinary and hung around for a long time.

As a matter of interest, what was Picken doing jumping on his back? The footage is clear enough to show him there. Well off the ball and wouldn't that normally be a free kick if the umpires saw it?

I'm pretty sure Boomer would not have invited him to jump on board for a piggy back ride. Surely that has to lend some credence to the issue of provocation being a factor in Boomer's reaction.

The reaction on here is blowing my mind. I honestly thought I was on the main board reading these posts.

He got scragged from behind off the ball. Had a wrestle. That's it. Can't believe y'all seeing it and something worse. You got lakes (rocks) in your head.
I see a bloke in Harvey who through his own stupidity might have cost NM a final.

I don't give a rat's about Picken.

Yep, fair point and totally agree about your bold.

I also wouldn't have a huge problem with snapping as any player can only be pushed so far. Even if he scragged the guy and gave him a mouthful I could understand.

But the arm on the throat (given Lake just recently - different incident I know) is just unnecessarily, and IMO very stupidly, asking for trouble whether he gets weeks or otherwise.

I also feel his temper as you rightly put it is a significant flaw in his game, it has hurt us previously and it may just hurt us come week one finals.
3 things that stop these incidents eventuating.....

The umpires do their job.
The team responds and everybody bumps, shoves, verbalize and niggles the tagger.
Boomed keeps his temper in check.

Problem solved, thanks Gil, no charge I'm a generous man. ;)

Believe me I try to ignore them as much as possible but they keep on getting to me.

I'll just have to try to show more discipline and work ethic, etc in future.

Use the ignore feature, it is not that hard.

Brace yourself... for a hefty suspension. I don't like the feeling of this.

Tas is right too - it's a lack of discipline from our most experienced player. It is symptomatic of our collective lack of discipline.

Sadly yes, discipline is an issue.

Yeah, well, we can all decide to view this one of two ways. Either Harvey snapped, judo flipped him then deliberately tried to choke him or he was scragged off the ball and a 3 second wrestle occurred.

He didn't get on there and stay on there so he was in control of his mind and most importantly to me is that Picken has hold of the jumper and pulling Boomer towards him. His isn't in so much distress and trying to fight him off. Picken gets straight up and they play on.

Minor wrestle, worth a fine and that is all. FWIW I would think exactly the same if the players rolls were reversed.

Speaking of the "Look of the game" - this wasn't even picked up by any broadcast camera as we know. So the whole "look" factor wouldn't even be relevant if this video wasn't dug up by somebody and shown on every news bulletin.

Geez this is doing my head in.

Firstly, where was the umpire pulling up Picken for blatantly holding and restricting Boomer way off the ball as he tried to run?

Secondly, Boomer took matters into his own hands and tried to break the hold, winding up in a wrestle in which things became heated and saw the leach flipped over Boomer's back.

They landed heavily with Boomer on top and Picken yanking him closer with a firm two handed grip of the neck of Boomer's jumper. Boomer wasn't at arms length trying to murder Picken with a submission hold. He was still trying to push Picken away so he could stand up and get back involved in the play but Picken maintained his grip. Boomer's elbow was in the vacinity of Picken's throat as that's how they landed.

His crime is that he, whilst trying to force himself free from on top of Picken, added a little spice to the push to the throat area briefly.

Picken let go and both rose and went on with playing, with Boomer remonstrating to a nearby umpire who should've afforded him a free kick in the first place, and intimating "wtf was I meant to do with him holding onto my jumper for dear life FFS?" while showing where he'd been held on his jumper.

It was a wrestle. Reading this thread has been like reading about how Boomer shot Bambi.

Watching and listening to the sensationalistic footy media since yesterday has been even worse.

The tribunal is a crap shoot so f*** knows what will occur tonight, but I would like to think Picken will see it as nothing more than a wrestle, if asked to testify, and HOPE the tribunal members don't bow to trial by media pressure.

Kevin Bartlett and Martin Blake this morning illustrated how far apart people may stand on this with Bartlett suggesting Boomer deserves at least 3-4 weeks for attacking Picken's throat and Blake saying it was "a wrestle and deserves no more than 1-2, IF ANY", were his exact words.

Let the gambling begin.

Whose games record will Boomer overtake when he reaches 400:)

If the umpires do their job none of this happens.

For some reason Boomer is now a marked man. There was an umpy in the Geelong game who spent 5 mins deliberatley watching him get molested and as soon as he pushed the campaigner away he gets pinged.

I'm not going to persecute Boomer like the moral minority on here. I actually don't blame him for what he did. I am surprised he hasn't snapped more over a 380 game period. I'd rather it didn't happen, but he is an emotional, fiery character.

But it's a fact of life that they don't. They can be capricious, nasty, vindictive and anything else but they are the umpires. Good teams, good players take the umpires out of the equation.

Exactly my thoughts. KB has positioned himself in a media 'no man's land' where he's neither a serious commentator nor a lovable larrakin.

There have been several commentators questioning the severity of Boomer's actions whereas in the Lake case it was only the likes of Dermie. I'm increasingly coming around to the opinion that with a good defense (just read TT's summary above to the tribunal) and favourable testimony from Picken we might just see Boomer in the first week of the finals.

I can see a potential 2 weeks penalty, if the case is run properly. If so, the farce will go like this.

Boomer goes in pleads guilty, apologises, bows and scrapes.

Tribunal deliberate ( fortunately the tribunal are ex footballers and know what campaigners taggers are) tell Boomer how he's been a naughty boy and how he's lucky Picken wasn't hurt more.

Boomer goes into stage 2 scraping and bowing.

2 weeks given.

Boomer comes out, bows and scrapes, mentions how he got a fair hearing and play on.

I am getting too cynical about this process :p
