I'd rather we gave SEH or Unwin a go and told them to just focus on applying forward half pressure like the young tigers did on Thursday.
We've seen enough of Menzie now, he may be small but he is as slow and poor at handling ground balls as our tall forwards, he won't fix our structural issues.

You know things are dire if we're contemplating a Jye Menzie selection.
Menzie kicked 23 goals in 2023, then only 3 in 2024.
Is Essendon playing him out of position, making him a tagger?
If we could get another year with 23 goals out of him, wouldn't be a bad thing surely.

Outside of Setterfield, the simple fact is our other options are debutants... Yeah that's more grim than I thought.
He’s out of position in the senior team. He played plenty in the forward line last year. Just doesn’t get near it, doesn’t look dangerous, and is a below average finisher

He had clean hands when he started but now has the fumbles. Like someone said last year during a match "a certain goal turns into nothing". I think that was after being metres in the clear running onto a loose ball with no one between him and the goals but the fumbles set in. I think he has been Essington'd, belief and composure at the highest level has deserted him. He has good numbers when it comes to running speed and endurance but it doesn't translate how we want - no separation on opponent, and no closing down space and pressuring defenders.
Pretty good for a first full game back. Scored a goal and could've had another, was involved in a couple more chains. Created some pressure and was more composed with the ball. Looked quicker too.

The one he missed should be his bread and butter - a snap from 20-30m out.
He was otherwise a solid contributor but with just 10 possessions and 1 goal in a full game he’d want his pressure to be elite to get higher marks. It’s definitely not elite.

And he has no discernible trait that has even a waft of elite potential. Maybe his work rate is the thing, but what good is work rate if you don’t have the polish, tricks, efficiency, smarts, composure, or execution - whether it be goals, hitting targets, laying tackles, or thwarting opponents? He has beige written all over him and as I’ve said before, I really hope I’m proven wrong but I just don’t see it in him.

Genuinely I think he’s the worst footballer I’ve seen in Essendon colours. Unbelievably slow, a poor kick a poor handball, fumbles everything, shit marking, and most importantly, stuffs up any and all goal opportunities.
Also, even the supposed reason he’s in the side - his effort - is wildly overstated. The goal he kicked against port was him being slow and lazy and was led back towards goal, trailing his man by 20-30m, and he got lucky.
Had no business being in the AFL. Absolute waste of space.
