Agree totally re your opinion of Holmes

He is the most exciting young player that Geel has had in 10 years .

Big call, but certainly liked what I’ve seen so far. Being an athlete is a good start and looks to have the footy smarts as well, so can’t disagree.

Be interesting to poll who have been the most exciting 3 young players of the past 10 years. (Trying to leave out hindsight) Menzel rose to prominence 10 years ago, along with Bundy and Vardy. Guthrie has been a slow burn after a promising 2013 Henry? cocky? Esava? Miers? TK and TS excluded as mature age. Form it would be 1. Menzel 2. Cocky 3. Esava

Edit: For me not form

He doesn't exactly have the option of playing VFL to find touch or build his tank beyond what he can do at training; if his knee is right to go then it's right to go

Andy McGrath did his PCL in the Bombers round 12 match versus Richmond - that was June 5 and he returned to senior action against the Suns on August 15. Going off what was said on the news, it was 71 days since he did his PCL when he returned, and this Friday would be 70 days for Duncan

It's not like this is a crazy time frame for him to return or that he's necessarily been rushed back

Right, and here I was sceptical- lying media are a pack of hound dogs covered in horse dung, special beat ups finals week.
Not like Cats to take any chances, so here's hoping you're right and he's in the frame.

i'd bring Zuthrie in for Klodojashnij, Higgins in for Dollhouse, Narkle in for Miers and Ratugolea has to play as a forward/backup ruckman.

Zuthrie much more mobile than Klodojashnij, too many slow moving barges already down back. Narkle gives us another quality midfielder that we sorely missed against Melbourne. Higgins will be fresh and won't waste his chance to play finals.

B: Zuthrie, Blicavs, Henry
HB: O’Connor, Henderson, Atkins
C: I.Smith, C.Guthrie, Menegola
HF: Higgins, Cameron, Rohan
F: Close, Hawkins, Ratugolea

Foll: Stanley, Dangerfield, Selwood

Int: Parfitt, Holmes, Bews, Narkle

I agree the rest of his game is super but i think this game will be a low scoring scrap and im not sure we can afford any more blokes who miss chances on goal (we have a few already). But equally i wouldnt be unhappy if he played.

He needs to do a Jimmy- practice over and above- the hell out of kicking goals from every angle.
Then we can talk emerging star.

Can someone refresh my memory
Didn’t we have a comfortable win against Port the game before last year QF?

Hawkins kicked a bag and we basically moved the ball quick inside 50m

obviously some changes in Personnel but Cameron up there with him can’t hurt

Yep we smashed them in Queensland, Tomma had a big one. Kicked a lot straighter that night. The wet conditions didn’t help us in the QF esp with their pressure and front half game.
Good to see the forecast is looking good for Friday.

Menzel was the best by a long way, had sublime skills and would never be beaten one on one. Such a pity his knees cut his footy career short.

I agree, that was a strange thing to say!

I remember seeing danger struggling a bit for breath in the 3rd qtr as he followed a port player. Looked like he might have been winded. Meant to have a look in the replay, but haven’t got to it yet. Sickness might explain it and he was just running out of legs, after losing fluids….Hopefully it’s not ribs or anything like that.

If Duncan is named and ready to come back I'll do a little sex wee in happiness.
He makes a massive difference.
Huge in if it comes to fruition. We really need this one - especially given how valuable the week off will be to our older guys. I don't think they'll have enough in the tank to play four consecutive finals against the likes of Port / Bulldogs / Brisbane / Melbourne. Really need the week off to solidify our chances.

If we lose I thought we play one of gws or Sydney. We aren’t going to face all of those 4 teams above.

There will be a week off before GF either way given likelihood of WA quarantine requirement

- if Tuohy comes in, it’s for Kolo

Surely it would be for Holmes? Tuohy has shown he can play forward or wing if necessary and is a genuine weapon.

In some sense it's better to take a risk on Duncan sooner rather than later, in case he "needs a run" and his first game back might be below par. I think I would rather go into a prelim with a sharp Duncan than a rusty Duncan and a week off but of course there are many possibilities

Aye you can definitely afford to carry him more in a QF than a PF.
