they do make a great point, if i understand them correctly - he’s a great “Essendon” midfielder but not a great “AFL” midfielder

I'd probably ignore Whatley in it all

But I think Hodge and Derm were pretty solid. He is a very very good id but he needs help around him.

Anyway I think what Morris said is telling enough a he want to stay we want him to stay. So I think on way or other a deal gets done. IF it was us bending as much as I agree with Derm and Hodge so be it .

no one at essendon is prepared to actually have a stern conversation about stuff like this. it needs to come from outside the club & s**t fluff pieces from whatever media hack needs to write something only serves to inflate his meagre worth more
Well they clearly are. They aren’t giving him what he wants…

I like Parish as a player. I think he gets harshly treated by some on here and around other socials.

But they are right.. giving him a 6 year deal is just plain stupid. He has not been dominant or consistent enough to warrant that kind of deal.

The other little bit that makes me cringe.. he has been at the club 8 years.. and absolutely stuff all success. You look at the teams that were picking 'around' us in that draft.. Melbourne.. and they have climbed up and won premierships and finals.. and we still hang around the bottom of the league each and every year. I'm not wanting to start the Oliver vs Parish debate.. but I am saying that Melbourne were right to jump up and grab Oliver (if that was who we were going with anyway)..

If Parish is offered a deal that would get us Band 1 comp then I would let him go.. the secondary problem is that Duds will just waste that pick anyway.

So we don't want to give Parish a big contract because he's not that good, but we need another club to give him a big contract for some reason so we can get a top 10 compo pick that Dodo/RFK will just waste, and we can improve our midfield mix by replacing Parish (an inside mid who can't kick) with Hobbs (an inside mid who can't kick, but is young).
Hobbs can kick and has much more composure and strength in the contest

Hobbs can kick if he stays in his range. As soon as he pushes it he starts shaking them.
Yep. Needs to find know his limits and he will be okay.

Not too worried about his kicking more that he gets caught holding the ball too much. Needs to dish off earlier at times.
lot of those end up being tough/bad calls imo, but generally agree he can hold it too long

Lucas was pissed.

It’s not a good look for us. Is our wonderful list manager responsible for the leaks?

Lucas is using his new mate Tom Brown, or who ever that guy is he does Sunday Crunch Time with, to fight the campaign re Parish.

Brown is a bit dumb so he talks about a market but can't cite an example of anyone else being prepared to offer the terms Lucas wants for his client.

I've listened to that discussion twice now, once live and just then.

I reckon the industry needs to work out 2 things:

1. what (inside) midfield roles exist; and

2. what statistical metrics could be relied on to determine, as objectively as possible, how that player is performing based on the style of player.

In soccer there are 3 basic centre midfield roles: defensive mid (#4 or #6 depending on where in the world you are), box to box (#8) and attacking (#10). Each role is clearly defined both in terms of what it looks like on field, and depending on formation, and the statistical metrics used to measure the performances of those players.

Hodge says Parish is a 'pollish' player. What sort of pollish player can hit targets by foot with any consistency? It would be like an AM who can't finish a goal or a DM who can't make a tackle.

Scott Lucas sounds like a bit of a dick

…and he’s already learnt to stay within those limitations, something Darcy is still grasping.
Last week he tried to kick a goal from 50m instead of looking for other options and it fell 10m short and landed right in the arms of an opposition defender for an easy turnover. If that's knowing your limitations...

Negotiations have been over since the 5 x 750k offer was made. Parish and his management have no leverage to try and negotiate any more. People will argue its already too much for the player. Id call it generous. Whoever at the club is making the call to say take it or leave it should be applauded and i hope they stick to it
