Probably worth mentioning Bastinac's TOG was 48%. He was subbed on at half-time which means he was out there for 96% of the time he was a live player.

He picked up 3 tackles to go with 15 disposals and two goals. Now, I know this doesn't suit the agenda of all the haters but only Greenwood (8), Swallow (7) and Ziebell (5) had more and they all played a full game. Cunnington had 2 and Gibson had 1 FWIW.

So after a month of putridity(new word?) he plays half a game and is untouchable. Any wonder we play like gutless wonders every fortnight

Did I say he is untouchable? I don't think I did.

It's just a very interesting set of numbers. The prevailing view from our supporters is that tackles = tough. He had the fourth most having played half a game. Seems awfully compelling and frankly those sticking the boots in for that one handed effort would do well to take note.

Fair call. FWIW, tackles to me = work rate.

It is fair dinkum rediculous that we were beaten both in uncontested possession and tackling.

There is no doubt that Bastinac played very well in the time he had on ground. That effort needs to be his floor and the same measures applied to all his team mates. No player is going to blitz every single week, but they do need to impact one way or another every week.

He should have played from the start. Another shocking decision to make him sub.
Geelongs spread and front running from the start was immense. We needed Bastis run and instead we had Wright and co minding grass.
Can I ask you all a question.
Bastinac will play game 100 this year.
Luke McDonald just played his 9th.
In remarkably the same spot of the ground, one went up for a contest, eyes for the footy not giving a **** who was coming and BLED for the jumper in the process saving the side a goal and clearing the area. The player he beat was BOG tonight and a brownlow medalist.
The other had the chance to put his body on the line, take the contact, make an impact for the team and sacrifice being cleaned up just to prove he wanted to win the footy and he bitched out.
I like Ryan as a footballer and he is a great bloke but how dare he look or acknowledge Luke McDonald tonight after putting in an effort like that.

I keep hearing that we only lost to Geelong by 3 goals and it wasnt such a bad effort?
When the **** did we accept losing at North Melbourne? We go into every game to WIN. You dont want to put in the hard yards then **** off.
We will forever be a mediocre side if we dont push that extra yard. Tonight we again faltered.
Im not one to make a mockery of one of our own and neither should I. Were a family at North. We dont do that. But if you arent willing to put everything on the line for this club then you are not worthy of putting on the jumper.
Luke McDonald shaped up to Tom Hawkins and took the fall knowing he stood no chance. NOT ONE ******* PLAYER CAME IN TO HELP HIM OUT.
Tonight out of all nights I truly believe we are soft. Not physically as in we cant produce tough footy. But mentally in our approach and desire to win the contest. I mean we had 3 tackles in that 3rd quarter?? 3?? Comeon Bigfooty. You cant tell me thats acceptable for an AFL side. WTF is going on down there? Seriously. These inconsistencies and all they keep coming up. They dont go away. I truly dont believe we are anywhere near the makings of a premiership team. Not with efforts like that. We dont have enough matchwinners on our list who can turn a game when its not going our way. And itll hurt us in the long run. Time will tell but the footballing development of our players has been real good. Its the mental resolve that I worry about. Not enough willing to do the hard yards when it counts. This will be our undoing. I guarantee it.

Thats the exact reason why I want him dropped. I know he is an outside player but when its your time to go its your time to go. Honestly couldn't believe it when he threw up one arm and closed his eyes.

I'm also pissed at Hansen and Thompson, both of them were in the foreground when Luke Mcdonald gave it to Hawkins, yet neither went and remonstrated despite Hawkins laying Mcdonald on his backside.

I'm incredibley annoyed that this sort of stuff has happened for the last 10 years, and its why we are stuck in a rut of mediocrity. Since the 90's We have never had more than 2-5 players each season that truly bleed for the jumper.

The thing about Bastinac is just he's just a all round vanilla player. Sure he has a good tank and sure he has good goal awareness, but he is defensively lacking, doesn't do a lot of damage with his disposal and isn't quick.

Did you miss the image?

Any player can run or stay under the footy to pretend they missed it.

It is called out even at amateur level, was a pathetic 'effort'.

I'm hopeful (but not confident) Scott will make an example of him and back to VFL.

Not sure if you watched the game but he didn't "run Under the footy"
the ball was kicked to his head (over as it turned out) so the only option was a standing jump which he tried to do.
but hey don't let facts get in the way ...

F*** it let's look at a single incident from a woeful f***ing evening to hang a bloke.

The game was shot to shit before he even got on.

There are few blokes that would get a pass from Friday night. As a team they were shit from the get go.

One incident does not incriminate and send a man to the gallows. But a build of poor, poor showings and weak efforts from someone who has shown he can perform does build a case against him. An incident like squibbing is the sort of thing that causes the penny to drop.

Off with his head

Bastinac has signed a new 3 year deal with the club and has signalled his intentions to remain a 1 club player.

Many have questioned his season so far (me included), but this is fantastic news. What the clubs been able to do with added pressure of 2 new expansion franchises is a credit to out great club.

“It’s been a pretty tough year, but to sign for three years at a great club with great teammates. I’m really rapt,” Bastinac said.

“There was never any doubt in my mind (about re-signing). I’ve always wanted to be a one-club player, that’s been my goal ever since I first got drafted, so I’ll be here for a long time hopefully.

“North is home for me. Coming into the club every day to hang out with all your mates, it can’t get much better than that. I don’t want to leave.

That stupid haircut is taking a long time to wear off, but he certainly showed signs last week.

Very impressed by the way the club has retained players over the last few years, we've only really lost players who we couldn't, for reasons of either structure or skill level, fit into our best 22 (Hale, McIntosh, Edwards, Delaney) since Josh Gibson decided to walk.

Not Basti's best season thus far, but he has what it takes and should continue to be best 22 for us for a number of years.
